Intel Nehalem system demo video from Taipei

"From what we saw today, we think things are progressing just nicely. Intel setup a Nehalem demo system but we weren’t told what clock speed it was running. It did have a pair of Intel’s 80GB SATA-II SSD drives in RAID 0. Intel demonstrated the speed of Nehalem and SSD in RAID 0 by opening various applications under Vista and even if they were cached in local memory, everything that was click popped up instantly almost with no delay – responsiveness was amazing."

"To demonstrate the raw power of Nehalem, Intel first started encoding raw HD footage into 1080p Blu-ray format and while we didn’t get any numbers, it handled it without a sweat at all and was on track to complete in record time with solid CPU utilization over all eight threads.

Next up we got a look at a program called Deep Viewer which brings a new way at how we could be looing at old photos in the not so distance future. Intel had a monitor setup with touch capabilities and were showing off how Nehalem handled accessing and processing huge amounts of data in terms of photos and mapping in real-time."

What Intel was doing with the computer was even more impressive. Using a piece-meal but publicly available set of IR lights this standard Dell 30" monitor had become a touch screen display. Intel was using that input medium, along with software that organizes photos by date, location and scales them much like Google maps does, to show the power of the upcoming Intel Nehalem cores and I must say the demonstration was pretty impressive. If nothing else, it made me want to go out and buy this input mechanism, no matter how ugly it looks attached to the display like this.

mislim da se prvi nehalem-i na desktopu nece pojavit prije Q1-Q2 2009

20-50% bolje performanse a tek 10% vise snage vuce. Nehalem ubija Penryna na jos novoj i ne razradenoj platformi dok svi znamo mogucnosti Skulltrail ploce. Al eto, treba pricekat kraj ove godine da vidimo sve kak spada jer je ovo ipak prvi test i jako je zanimljiv. Intel je napravio veliki pomak s Nehalemom a entuzijastima je jos uvijek ostavio overclock opciju na volju. Nije da Intel prezivljava od takvih no svakako ih nije mal broj koji ce uzeti Nehalema za nabijanje bodova, natezanje itd. Sve u svemu, odlican posao Intela again i neznam kako bu AMD uzvratio jer i sada zaostaje puno. Intelu treba konkurent da nama smrtnicima svaki pomak cijena prema dole bude razlog za cekanje.

Jedva čekam Nehalem. Puna Tržnica jeftinih P45 ploča i quadova za siću, a (nimalo popularni) Phenomi se praktički dijele.
U stilu Delboya; sljedeće godine u ovo vrijeme svi smo na quadu (nebitno je ime na IHSu), svi renderiramo, clockamo i pokrećemo masu programa u isto vrijeme.
