JUST BEFORE NOON Taipei time on Wendesday, ATI is going to to drop a bombshell on the graphics world, showing off working 40nm DX11 silicon. Nvidia has yet to tape out a DX11 part or put a 40nm chip on the market.

The cards that will be showed off are Evergreen/Cypress, what is commonly referred to as R870. That code name however is not used internally, so if you ever see any leaked specs or charts with R870 on them, they are flat out faked. There have been several of these bandied around, but they are all laughably off.

AMD promised that they would have DX11 cards out on the market by the Windows 7 launch, and barring a massive and as of yet undetected problem, it looks like they will make that with ease. In the mean time, at the company's Computex press conferences, Nvidia distinctly avoided any mention of DX11 or parts that run it..

Mid-day tomorrow, the winners and losers for the next 2-3 quarters will become very very clear.

Kaj bi drugo s tim grafama?
Pa vantage je osim još 2-3 igre jedino i mogao pošteno iskoristiti dx10.

Sada će skoro sve igrice dolaziti u dx10, dx10.1 verzijama i onda kada dođe windows 7 i dx11 grafičke ( za par mjeseci) onda prelazimo na dx11 igrice, a realno gledajući koliko uopće ima dx10(.1) igrica vrijednih spomena.

Crysis se u to neubraja, jer i na dx9 se može pokrenut vhigh.

Ja bi samo spomenuo assassins creed,HAWX, farcry 2 i možda još jednu, makar i kod njih nema neke razlike između dx9 i dx10(.1)...

Nadam se da će DX11 donesti vidljive razlike.

There is a DX11 gaming system lurking deep in Computex but we managed to hunt it down as usual. We can't provide you a close up right now but judging from the looks of it, the card is about 8.5" long, dual slot and requires a 6-pin power. This card probably belongs to the mainstream segment (RV840), part of the AMD's DX11 Evergreen family. The silicon is at A10 revision right now and we can expect another spin before it enters mass production. Targeted launch of the first DX11 part is in September before the Windows 7 hits the market on October 22nd. Some benchmarks later...

A šta ti tu smeta?

Uvijek kada trebaju izbacit 10000 seriju oni krenu s brojevima ispočetka.

nvidia -> 8800, 9800 -> 200 -> 300 ...
ati -> 9800 -> x800 -> x1800 -> hd2-> hd3 ->hd4 ...

i vjerovatno će opet ispočetka krenut.

Shvaćam da bi bilo previše brojeva onda, ati je to malo bolje riješio, stavio je rimsko 10 tj. X ispred pa dobijemo u biti 10800... Ali onda x1800 nema logike tj. bila bi 101 800???
Ma glavno da oni štancaju isplative grafičke.

"We’ve confirmed something that we’ve heard a long time ago, but we could not second it. Now we know that RV770 design concepts are the guidelines for the design of ATI's upcoming chip that well all keep calling RV870. This Evergreen generation chip has the same design concepts but you can expect faster speeds and more shader units.

The shader units are changed in order to accommodate DirectX 11 needs as this is the big focus of the chip. The chip is still scheduled for late Q3 2009 introduction, most likely Septemberish time and it will undoubtedly be the first Direct X 11 chip on the market.

Nvidia’s GT300, a next generation chip that also carries another codename but all keeps calling it GT300, is as far as we know the new architecture, something better than GT200 and you should expect some radical design changes."

We can confirm that today at an AMD place in Sunnyvale we had a chance to see DirectX 11 card, up and running. We had one in our hands on one of the cards and we’ve seen one running a few DirectX 11 technology demos. So DirectX 11 hardware from ATI is real and not a Power Point presentation.

The card is a prototype and it will probably launch later this year. So far, everyone keeps calling the card Evergreen. However, we insist in calling the card RV870 and we can tell you that this should be a performance card, not a cheap one.

From what we’ve seen, it can do tessellation and few other tricks from the DirectX 11 SDK kit. The general idea is that ATI is definitely ahead of introducing DirectX 11 hardware and this one is ought to be a 40nm chip. We don’t know about the general performance, it’s still too early for 3Dmark scores.

AMD invited Legit Reviews up to their private suite in the hotel that Quakecon 2009 is being hosted at for a first look at gaming on one of their upcoming DirectX 11 graphics cards. This graphics card has not been officially named yet, but it has the internal code name of 'Evergreen' and was first shown to the media back at Computex over in Taiwan earlier this year. Once we arrived in the AMD suite we were introduced to not one, but two systems running DX11 hardware! One system was setup running a bunch of DX11 SDKs and the other system was running the demo for the upcoming game title Wolfenstein. The Wolfenstein video game demo uses just DX9, so it really doesn't show off DirectX 11 performance or functionality, but it does show that the GPU is up and running.

ATI's DX11 class Evergreen family will contain five products. Since the flagship X2 version is made up of two GPUs, there are four code-names assigned for the initial product lineup.

• Cypress – dual-chip flagship graphics equipped with two RV870 chips;

ATI Cypress DirectX 11 GPUs will be launched as the Radeon HD 5800 series...

It seems Cypress XT is the Radeon HD 5870 model, while Cypress Pro will be the Radeon HD 5850. The launch is said to take place in September, with broad availability slated for October around the same time as the Windows 7 launch, which is October 22nd.

According to a fresh report by Donanim Haber, AMD's next performance graphics accelerator, the Radeon HD 5870, codenamed "Cypress" is expected to be aggressively priced, at US $299. At that price, it intends to be highly competitive against GeForce GTX 285 from NVIDIA. The secret-sauce behind the price could be the 40 nm fab process on which the GPU is being built, which allows upping transistor counts while maintaining significantly smaller die-sizes compared to 55 nm.

There is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the specifications of the GPU, including what level of performance with existing application could it end up offering. Some sources, such as ChipHell, which are one of the first to leak pictures of components related to various Evergreen family products claim the Cypress GPU to have an almost 100% increase in stream processor counts compared to RV770, while others remain conservative expecting it to be around 50%. With this kind of a pricing, Cypress could trigger market-wide changes in GPU pricing, if it ends up with a good price/performance ratio at $299.

Cypress is expected to be launched on 22 September, close to two weeks after the company unveils the Evergreen family of DirectX 11 compliant GPUs on September 10. Market availability is expected in October. In related news from the same report, the enthusiast-grade accelerator that uses two of these GPUs, codenamed "Hemlock", is expected to be out in November.
