Intel X68 rumor issueing USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps in Q2 2010?

Citiraj:

Weird -- at an Intel press-conference last week Intel clearly stipulated that for the 1020 line of products USB3.0 and SATA 6GBPs would not become available. However according to a report by Japanese tech site ASCII we may see USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps support from Intel a lot sooner than expected.

IF so then Intel is working on a Tylersburg refresh that will offer SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 support sometime next quarter in the form of the X68 + ICH11 chipsets.

There's also some information about the P65, H65 and Q65 chipsets, these new models will reportedly arrive in Q1 2011. They will introduce DMI 2.0 (5GT/s), SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0. Check out the thumbnail.

Gulftown hexacore izašao, idemo dalje

Intel Launches Eight Core, 16 Thread Nehalem-EX

Citiraj:

http://media.bestofmicro.com/H/0/242...Die-Shot-1.jpg
In the enthusiast space for Intel fans, Gulftown may have just arrived with its hexacore power, but the world's largest chipmaker has a special new product for the server space.
Intel today launched the Xeon 7500 processor series, which offers up to eight cores packed in a single chip that's able to handle 16 threads at once. Systems can include up to 256 chips per server to combine for 2,048 cores and 4,098 threads.
"The Xeon 7500 brings mission critical capabilities to the mainstream by delivering the most significant leap in performance, scalability and reliability ever seen from Intel," said Kirk Skaugen, vice president of the Intel architecture group and general manager of Intel's data center group. "This combination will help users push to new levels of productivity, and accelerate the industry's migration away from proprietary architectures. We are democratizing high-end computing."
This Xeon series is the first of the family to possess Machine Check Architecture (MCA) Recovery, a feature that allows the silicon to work with the operating system and virtual machine manager to recover from otherwise fatal system errors, a mechanism until now found only in the company's Itanium processor family and RISC processors.
The new Nehalem-EX chips won't be cheap though; the hexacore X7542 model starts at $1,980 and the octacore X7560 is $3,692.

Intel to Ship Experimental Chips With 48 Cores

Citiraj:

While we may be mightily impressed at the multiplying of cores in the hexacore Gulftown Core i7-980X, the octacore Nehalem-EX Xeon 7500 and the dodecacore AMD Magny-Cours Opteron 6000 series, Intel has something special up its sleeve that it is releasing in limited quantities – and it has 48 cores.

Intel's been testing an experimental 48-core CPU for some time, and it is now preparing to ship some of those to researchers by the end of the second quarter, according to IDG News Service. The chip will primarily be sent to academic institutions, but certain special features the chip could eventually find their way into commercial offerings.

For example, the 48-core chip features 24 small routers between the cores, which facilitate faster data exchanges across the chip. Each core also has on-chip buffers that can instantly exchange data in parallel across all the cores.

Intel also says that the 48-core chip has a more advanced on-die power management system that can vary the power draw between 25 watts to 125 watts. It can also reduce clock speed and shut down cores.

As far as clock speeds go, current desktop and even laptop offerings outpace this 48-core wonder. Intel revealed that its experimental chip runs at about the same frequencies as the Atom CPU, so we're looking in the neighbourhood of 1.2GHz to 1.83GHz.

Intel Stuffing More Than 8 Cores Into Westmere-EX

Intel's octacore server chip, the Xeon 7500 Nehalem-EX, is built on the 45nm process. For the next big evolution of the Xeon line, Intel hopes to be pushing even more cores when it takes it flagship to the 32nm Westmere-EX generation.
While the Westmere 32nm technology is in the Xeon 5600, Intel plans to extend that technology to EX sometime next year.
Stephen Smith, vice president and director of PC client operations and enabling at Intel, said during a webcast speech that the upcoming Westmere-EX chips will be targeted at systems with four sockets or more. The good news is that the Westmere-EX chips will be socket compatible for those who have already invested in the latest Xeon servers.
"We are well along in development and we are confident that we have a product that will give us a great performance boost. It will go into the same sockets, so the idea here is the platform is an investment that the OEMs have made," said Smith, according to the IDG.
Although Intel didn't divulge any information on core counts or clock speeds, analysts see that hitting 12 cores (for 24 threads) is a likely possibility given that AMD already has its Magny-Cours product.

The SCC can run all 48 cores at one time over a range of 25W to 125W and selectively vary the voltage and frequency of the mesh network as well as sets of cores. Each tile (2 cores) can have its own frequency, and groupings of four tiles (8 cores) can each run at their own voltage.

One of the distinct features of the new 48-core experimental chip is its extreme programmability. Software applications will be able to automatically control the number of cores to use at any given time and operating systems will be able to assign certain cores for auxiliary tasks.
Zanimljivo :)

Intel confirms: no discrete graphics plans - Bit-Tech.net, Fudzilla.com

Citiraj:

In a blog post - via The Wall Street Journal - Intel's Bill Kircos states categorically that "[Intel] will not bring a discrete graphics product to market, at least in the short-term" - meaning that there will be no Larrabee-powered dedicated graphics cards to offer consumers a third choice, away from the AMD and Nvidia duopoly.

Blaming the fact that the company "missed some key product milestones" in the run-up to a Larrabee consumer product, Kircos states that Intel is looking to concentrate on integrated graphics for the foreseeable future - in particular "media/HD video and mobile computing[, which] are the most important areas to focus on."

Ne sumnjam kako će na dulje staze Intel izbaciti kartice na tržište.

Matth€w 26.05.2010. 13:59

Fudzilla je to ovako prenijela:

Intel's director of product technology in Media Relations Global Communications Group Bill Kircos has announced that Larrabee, as a graphics card that should come in the near future, is dead.
Što ne zvuči ohrabrujuće, odnosno previše blizu.

Swarm dude 26.05.2010. 14:03

Jer nije izjavio kako odustaju for good. Vidjet ćemo kako će se situacija razvijati kroz dvije-tri godine.

Leaked Intel Roadmap Details New Fall Core CPUs

Wondering what Intel has planned for the rest of 2010 and 2011? Well, read on!
We've already seen laptops with Intel's new ULV Core i-series but it seems the company has quite a bit planned for this year. Engadget has uncovered and published an Intel roadmap detailing the chip giants entire fall collection.

Engadet reports that, aside from the previously rumored successor to the Core i5-540M (the 2.66GHz / 3.33 GHz Core i5-580M) and the Core i7-740QM/840QM, we can also expect a few more dual-cores at the end of the year. These will come in the form the 2.8GHz Core i7-640M (which turbos to 3.46GHz) and the 2.66GHz / 3.2GHz Core i5-560M.

Intel is also going hell for leather when it comes to Ultra Low Voltage chips. Q4 will bring us two 15W chips: a high-end Core i7-680UM (1.46GHz and turbos up to 2.53GHz) and a Core i5-560UM (1.33GHz / 2.13GHz). There'll also be a 25W Core i7-660LM that clocks in at 2.26GHz.

Engadget reports that all of these will have on die Intel HD graphics to tide us over until 2011 when we'll get WiMax, WiDi and Intel Bluetooth along with a new energy saving concept called Zero Power ODD. Zero Power will offer a power-saving sleep mode for noisy optical drives and enough battery life to play two Blu-ray movies on a single charge.

EVGA's motherboard team leaves unexpectedly - SemiAccuratte.com

Citiraj:

WE HAVE IT on very good authority; in fact we heard it from the horse's mouth so to say, that EVGA has run into a bit of a problem, as its motherboard team has decided to depart. This is not good news when you're a company that design your own motherboards, especially when you consider how few motherboard design companies that are left standing today..

We don’t know the exact reason as to why the motherboard team left, as the member of staff that told us that they had left didn’t tell us any specific details. He did however say that it wouldn’t impact the company for the time being, but long term issues are likely to arise unless they can find a new motherboard design team.

It might sound strange that a whole unit at a company upped and left, but this is not at all unusual in Taiwan where many engineers will follow their team leader when he leaves a company. We’ve had the story confirmed by a third party and we were also told that some of the motherboard product managers have also left. Product managers aren’t always part of the design team, as they tend to be in the marketing department.

Core i5-760 CPU is out for sale

Citiraj:

The Core i5 750 processor is probably the best Core based quad-core processor from Intel available on the market in terms of value. As it seems Intel just outted the Core i5 760.

The Lynnfield based processors can be seated onto a socket LGA 1156 motherboard and though precisely the same as its little brother, it is now clocked at 2.80 GHz, which is an okay improvement over the 2.66 GHz of the Core i5-750.

the chip comes with 8 MB of L3 cache and, of course, the integrated dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. Other specifications include a QPI of 4.8 GT/s and a TDP (thermal design power) of 95 W.

The product is priced at $209.99 whereas the 750 costs 195 USD.

Intel fixes prices and introduces new models

Citiraj:

Just one day before September, Intel unveils some price adjustments to their processors and also introduces some new CPU models. As you can see, the most recognizable name in the table is the Core i7 950 which now costs $294 instead of its previous price at $562.

Nonetheless, it’s a very good price tag for such a quad core processor up to 3.06 GHz frequency and also using HyperThreading technology. Apart from this one, there are lots of low-end processors at affordable prices. Last but not least, there are two Xeon beasts called W3670 and W3550 respectively.

The first one is a new model priced at oh-so high $885, but the last one called W3550 is an old friend, now priced about 100 bucks less.
