Uf, baš me zanima kako će to ići, jer sve si kontam da će to biti moja slijedeća kartica (ali naravno tek kad R600 dođe i cijene još malo padnu, te izađu kojekakvi Golden Sample i slično :) )

@Vey
Nije to vezano. G80 izlazi za PCI-e sasvim normalno, a koliko sam shvatio PCI-e 2.0 bi trebao pinski biti jedanak, ali nuditi veću propusnost i fizički ne bi trebalo biti razlika kod kartica.

Sources in Taiwan again confirmed that Nvidia's upcoming GPU (graphics processing unit) GeForce 8800 (formerly codenamed G80) is designed to fully support Microsoft's DirectX 10 Shader Model 4.0 technology. Nvidia is scheduled to officially launch the new GPU on November 8, the sources said.

The sources also revealed that two expected versions of the GeForce 8800, the GeForce 8800 GTX and the GeForce 8800 GTS, will vary in features such as the number of stream processors (128 and 96, respectively), core clock (575MHz and 500MHz) and shader-engine clock (1350MHz and 1200MHz). Both versions will be SLI ready, with 16x full-screen antialiasing and 128-bit floating-point high dynamic-range (HDR) lighting technology.

Using Nvidia's reference designs, makers will roll out graphics cards equipped with a recommended 768MB or 640MB of on-board memory for the GeForce 8800 GTX and the GeForce 8800 GTS, respectively, the sources stated. With a different memory clock (900MHz versus 800MHz) and memory interface (384-bit versus 320-bit), the cards will vary in memory bandwidth (86.4GB/s versus 64GB/s) and texture fill rate (36.8 billion versus 24 billion texels per second), according to the sources.

Taiwan-based graphics-card makers are now completing their last-minute preparations to launch their own products in line with Nvidia's launch in the middle of next week, the sources said.

The 8800 launch is a hard one, so expect partners to have boards in store for the big day's press conference at 11AM on the 8th. The board delivery will go in several waves, with the first two separated by days. The boards were designed by ASUSTeK, and feature a departure from usual suspects at Micro-Star International. This is also the first ever black graphics card from nVidia. Bear in mind that every 8800GTX and 8800GTS is manufactured by ASUS.

Both GTS and GTX are maxing out the CPUs of today, and even Kentsfield and upcoming 4x4 will not have enough CPU to max out the graphics card – G80 chip just eats up all the processing power that a CPU can provide to them.

Having said this, expect fireworks with AMD's 4x4 platform once that true quad-core FX become available.

The new cooler offers small holes in the front, cooling the part of the PCB with power regulation as well. It seems that these boards could overclock a bit higher, since recorded temperatures in this part of the PCB have always been record high.

As reported by bit-tech this morning, there are in fact problems with new GeForce 8800 GTX cards in the field and this does include North America. The problem is related to one single resistor on the 8800 GTX. It seems that after 3 to 4 hours of solid gameplay, the 8800 GTX will possibly hard-lock your entire system. The 8800 hard-launch is scheduled for this Wednesday and we are hearing that NVIDIA is doing everything possible to pull all of the cards back in, get them repaired, and then shipped back out to retailers.

While we could not get any public comments currently from North America add-in-card partners, it is our understanding that NVIDIA is taking the issue head-on and reacting in the ways needed in order to fix the issues. For those of you that are not in the know, it has become commonplace for Flextronics in China to build the first runs of high-end new-release video cards for NVIDIA that are then dealt to the AIC partners for branding. So yes, this resistor problem does impact “all” of the cards in North America and Europe.

It was however explained to us that this problem is not present on the first-run 8800 GTX cards that went out to reviewers, so reviews that you read on Wednesday should not reflect the issue. Certainly we will keep you up to date. But is seems that NVIDIA is doing everything possible to make sure this problem does not manifest itself in the hands of its early adopters of GeForce 8800 technology. This problem does not extend to the GeForce 8800 GTS.

Ujesh Desai, NVIDIA’s General Manager of the GPU group, had this to say when we asked him for comment on the story.

Citiraj:

You got it 100% correct. Some GeForce 8800 GTX boards that were built through our contract manufacturer had a simple BOM error - wrong resistor value. GeForce 8800 GTS boards are not affected by this. We have been working with our Add-In-Card vendors to change the resistor to the correct value. We should still be able to hit our hard launch this week (Nov 8th) with the new GeForce 8800 GTX boards, so this should not be an issue for end users.

nVidia is set to announce its G80 GeForce 8800 series graphics processors today. The new G80 GeForce 8800 series graphics processors introduce new features such as unified shaders, nVidia’s GigaThread technology, Quantum Effects physics processing, 128-bit floating point HDR lighting, 16x anti-aliasing and full support for Microsoft’s upcoming DirectX 10 with shader model 4.0 support.
  • eVGA today will release its GeForce 8800 GTX and 8800 GTS based graphics cards as well. As with most nVidia graphics card releases, the eVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTX and e-GeForce 8800 GTS match nVidia’s reference specifications. Nevertheless, the eVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTX and e-GeForce 8800 GTS feature dual dual-link DVI outputs and TV output capabilities. The TV output capabilities include component, S-Video and composite video outputs.

  • ASUS announced one GeForce 8800 GTX and another GeForce 8800 GTS card earlier this morning. Both cards will be bundled with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. ASUS is also one of the few manufacturers that openly claims HDCP support, even though the compliance is present on all 8800-series cards launching today.

  • MSI will also be releasing GeForce 8800 GTX and GeForce 8800 GTS based products. The MSI NX8800GTX and NX8800GTS follow nVidia specifications like eVGA. Nevertheless, the cards support dual dual-link DVI and HDTV outputs. MSI NX8800GTX and NX8800GTS graphics cards feature Dual CoreCell technology and include MSI specific utilities. These utilities include MSI StarOSD for tweaking and MSI Advanced Live Update Online for automated BIOS updating.

Citiraj:

The GeForce 8800 powerhouse was announced earlier today with much fanfare, but it appears as more products are already in the pipeline. According to internal NVIDIA roadmaps released yesterday, the company is expecting at least one more G80 derivative in February of 2007.

Pet nadolazećih G80 derivata

Nvidia has already taken steps to reduce the amount of data leaks from their software. But, apparently they forgot about a leaked version of ForceWare 96.94. Nvidia provided this driver to the G80 reviewers and it seems that someone leaked it out. If you will open a file called “modes.txt” from the ForceWare 96.94 package, you will notice a few new G80 strings:

http://www.imagesforme.com/thumbs/8670G80.png

That particular file contains Resolution settings and Refresh Rates for the entire GeForce family. As you can see in the screenshot above, you will see five new settings of an unnamed G80 based GPU. Yes, I’m talking about: G80-200, G80-400, G80-600, G80-850 and G80-875. Every one of these devices already appears in the “modes.txt” file and has a unique device ID. Since there are already records, we can assume that nVidia is currently testing these and have plans for them.

Pada interes za G80...čeka se G84 i G86

nVidia's launch of its DirectX 10-compliant GeForce 8800 GPU (codenamed G80) earlier this month seems to have failed to significantly stir up demand for high-end graphics cards, although the new chips took a lead in 3D computing processing, according to sources at Taiwan-based graphics card makers.

Since the G80 is preliminarily targeting the high-end sector, the sources pointed out that nVidia's forthcoming G84 and G86 GPUs for the entry-level and mid-range segments are likely to play a key role in the GPU market, with the two new GPUs expected to debut in the first quarter of 2007.

Although details of the G84 and G86 are still not available, nVidia has completed the roadmap for the two chips, with local graphics card makers likely to receive product samples in January or February of next year.

The introduction of the G84 and G86 will help nVidia extend its DirectX 10-compliant GPU lineup and strengthen its ability to effectively compete with ATi's upcoming DirectX 10-enabled R600-series GPUs. The market generally expects ATI Technologies to launch its R600-series GPUs in the first quarter of 2007.

G80
The overclocked G80 will eventually see daylight. The only question is when the manufacturers are going to win this fight. Realistic date, would be January 2007. This would allow Nvidia to give manufacturers a chance to make a faster clocked card and the market is here to embrace it.

G84
We only know that the chip is derived from G80 and will have less real pipelines and of course will end up smaller. It is scheduled for late March or early April 2007 introduction and we can also confirm that AMD won't have its mainstream DirectX 10 to compete with this in time. So this one might once more be the dominant mainstream chip in the market.

This means the birth of $199 to $249 DirectX 10 part is not that far away after all. End of 2007 will be DirectX 10 hardware for everyone as both Nvidia and ATi will full switch to DX 10 compatible chips and will try to get rid of the DirectX 9 parts as soon as it gets.

Overclockirane OCZ G80 kartice

OCZ Technology Group, a leading supplier of memory modules aimed at overclockers and performance computing enthusiasts, plans to re-enter the graphics cards business in the forthcoming weeks by launching graphics card products based on the GeForce 8800-series chips running at speeds beyond recommended by Nvidia Corp.

OCZ Technology pulled out of the graphics cards market back in 2001 with the pre-overclocked GeForce 3-series graphics cards that have never become popular. This time the company seems to be confident about its success on the market. Nvidia Corp. currently does not allow to pre-overclock the flagship GeForce 8800-series graphics cards to its partners following the scandal with broken pre-overclocked GeForce 7900-series boards. However, a source close to OCZ pointed out that the company would not pre-overclock the cards, but would pre-test the boards for overclocking.
