Microsoft has finally delivered on its promise to integrate Sysmon -- the long-standing system monitoring tool from its Sysinternals suite -- directly into Windows, a move that should make life considerably easier for enterprise administrators who have struggled with deploying and managing the utility across thousands of endpoints.

The functionality landed this week in Windows Insider builds 26300.7733 (Dev channel) and 26220.7752 (Beta channel). Sysmon allows administrators to capture system events through custom configuration files, filter for specific activity, and pipe the data into standard Windows event logs for pickup by security tools and SIEM pipelines. Mark Russinovich, Microsoft technical fellow and Winternals co-founder, has previously noted the lack of official customer support for Sysmon in production environments -- a gap this integration addresses. The feature ships disabled by default and requires PowerShell to enable. Microsoft notes that any existing Sysmon installation must be uninstalled before activating the built-in version.

Satya Nadella announced Microsoft needs an "engineering quality czar" and appointed Charlie Bell, who used to lead security, into the new role. The company also hired Google Cloud's president for customer experience to take over security.

Nadella's post doesn't say why Microsoft suddenly needs someone focused on engineering quality. Could be the Azure outages. Could be the Windows patches that break the OS instead of fixing it. Could be the out-of-band patch spree. Could be that only 3.3% of Microsoft 365 users are willing to pay for Copilot.

...Or maybe it's because Microsoft uses AI to write 30% of its own code now.

My Take
Microsoft laid off their dedicated QA teams back in 2014 under Nadella. They've been relying on the Windows Insider program as free testing ever since. Now they're hiring a "quality czar" to fix problems that exist because they cut the people who used to catch them.

They bragged about 30% of their code being AI-written. GitClear found code churn doubled after AI tools were introduced. Microsoft's own researchers found developers miss 40% more bugs reviewing AI-generated code. Stock is down 23% since earnings. They're pulling engineers off new features to stabilize Windows 11. And now they need a czar to address quality issues. I'm not saying AI caused all of this. But when you cut QA, replace human code with AI code, and then scramble to hire someone to fix quality, it's worth asking whether the efficiency gains were ever real or just deferred costs showing up later.

Znači došlo iz dupeta u glavu nakon 12 godina kad je već i djeci u osnovnoj školi valjda postalo vidljivo da je vrag odnio šalu i da dalje ovako više ne može.

Fantastično.

Do čega smo došli, nakon početnih mušica i dječjih bolesti, softver pa ranije i Windowsi bi generalno s protekom vremena postali bolji i bugovi bi se ispravljali, a kod win 11 nakon više od 4 godine otkad su izašli ne da su bolji nego postaju sve veći krš i lom svakim novim updateom, nevjerojatno nešto.

I to su dakle top inženjerski umovi svijeta koji rade u kompanijama ala Microsoft.

Teško da će ikome biti jasno zašto se kao neka osnova nije mogao uzeti Windows 7 kao dokazano moglo bi se reći najbolji Windowsi koje su napravili pa samo nastaviti na toj bazi nadograđivati i dodavati što već treba od fičera.

Ili je to ono - nove generacije programera moraju pljunuti na ono staro prije njih jer u njihovim glavama "to ne valja" pa imaju potrebu dodavati svoje umotvorine i izdrkotine. I tako s vremenom dobijemo one drive, cortanu/copilot, bitlocker itd. hrpu nepotrebnog smeća i bloatwarea i sad smo tu gdje smo.

Previše je ljudi koji su na te neke middle management pozicije zaposleni direktno, bez da znaju čime se ljudi ispod njih bave, bez da su na svojoj koži iskusili probleme koji nastaju kada ljudi koji nemaju pojma što rade izdaju naredbe koje ne razumiju.

Mnogima od tih ljudi takvi položaji su sami sebi svrha i smatraju se uspješnima bez da su išta pokazali. Najlakše ih je prepoznati kada zahtijevaju stvari koje su tehnički nemoguće.

Kada takvi konsolidiraju pozicije i okruže se klimavcima, nema tu više kruha.

Evo da se još jednom javno najebem majke microsoftu zbog toga što su napravili od regionalnih postavki i dodavanja keyboard layouta; zbog toga što su napravili od liste defaultnih aplikacija; te zbog toga što da bih instalirao office moram pokrenuti elevated command prompt i onda unutra unijeti punu putanju do setup.exe i punu putanju od configuration.xml. I za sve ostalo ih nabijem na kurac a za ove tri stavke posebno im jebem mater.

Regionalne postavke su kikiriki, ne može jednostavnije, a za ovo drugo se slažem, dodao bih još resetiranje folder viewa i stupaca u exploreru na default svako malo.

Regionalne postavke su kikiriki, ne može jednostavnije
Onda sam ja malo priglup jer ja na Win11 svaki put iznova tražim i googlam kako dodati HR layout.

Settings (logično) -> Time and Language (prilično logično) -> Language & region (napola logično jer ima i "Typing" i to najčešće prvo kliknem) -> U "Language" kliknuti tri točkice ("...") pored "English (United States)" (wtf) -> Lanugage options (wtf) -> scroll na dno i onda tek dođem do "Keyboards" i "Add a keyboard" (wtf).

Na WS2008R2 (aka Win 7) sad sam u 3 sekunde, bez da znam napamet gdje se nalazi, našao: Control Panel (logično) -> Region and Language (logično) -> Keyboard and Languages (logično) -> Change keyboards... (logično).

Zna netko koji je razlog da kod instalacije nema "croatian" keyboard layouta? Postoji slovenski, bosanski ili srpski, ali ne i hrvatski? Kako smo se to zamjerili Microsoftu?

Onda sam ja malo priglup jer ja na Win11 svaki put iznova tražim i googlam kako dodati HR layout.

Hvala kolega na detaljnom opisu ovog ludila, međutim ne zaboravi da na kraju balade HR tipkovnice nema na listi, nego Standard. To je isto mnogo logično. I, naravno, navedeni win11 koraci vrijede za ovu ediciju, pitanje je gdje će to utrpati s idućim većim releasom. Logično bi bilo da se još dodatno više zakomplicira, i da konačnu lokaciju sakriju iza barem još 5 klikova. Neka pitaju jebeni AI da li to ima smisla, ja mislim da i nabadalo vidi da je to suludo.

Dati ću jedan primjer: jučer sam na jedan laptop instalirao win 11, na drugi MX linux. Za potonji je trebalo barem duplo manje vremena, s time da sam bio i umorniji i tanjih živaca dok sam se zezao s MX.

Sa windowsima kod bootanja nikakvih problema, sve sigurno, sve šljaka, ali mi iz nekog razloga ignorira unattended.xml. Uopće mi se niti ne da ići kopati zašto, neka ga.

Onda hoće da odaberem region, i otvori onu ogromnu listu koja ne reagira na tipkovnicu, tako da možeš ti stisnuti C ili H ali budeš morao scrollati do toga što tražiš. Što, ako miš nije pri ruci, ne ide. Ostavim na UK, neka ga. Pametniji popušta.

Onda pizdi sa svim onim glupostima, ova telemetrija, ona telemetrija, skoro me motivirao da obustavim proces i da idem istražiti što se dogodilo sa unattended fajlom. Ali izdržah.

Onda slijedi debilana s accountom. Oće online, ja idem na domenu, pa OK, pa next, pa confirm, da, da, DA ne želim taj jebeni online account, odjebi, ostavi me na miru.

Onda poslije instalacije pali 3-4 puta update; prvi put kao skida a sve stoji smrznuto; pa onda kao skine ali stoji sve na retry; pa onda nekoliko ciklusa update i reboot. I naravno da čeka da ti napraviš restart nakon što žvače pola sata, jer naravno da ja imam vremena gledati u nj cijelo to vrijeme. Naravno.

I tek onda kreću te mješovite debilane s tipkovnicom, default aplikacijama, ovim onim. Najosnovnije stvari ne rade. Najnajosnovnija funkcionalnost pasivno agresivno zakomplicirana. Pa mater im jebem, ponudite dobar software pa nećete morati drkati ljude da isti koriste.

Umjesto da olakšate korištenje vlastitog softwera vi namjerno komplicirate korištenje tuđeg, kreteni jedni. Hrpetina gluposti koje su rezultat retardiranih fix ideja. Debili.

S druge strane, MX linux. Bootam live ISO, problem, secure boot. Predmetni lenovo ima neki čudan BIOS pa malo mozgam dvije minute dok skužim kako ugasiti to sigurnosno čudo tehnike, i nakon toga radi bez problema. Onda problem s Nvidia grafikom, setup neće nego ryzen integrušu. Neka ga.

Bootam ISO, dođoh na desktop za 1-2min, okinem install, esc za prekid integrity check ISO image (instalirao isti 10x, radi), klik za dodavanje tipkovnice, stisnem C, par puta strelica dolje, i eto crvenbijeliplavi: Croatia. Onda kliknem na drugu opciju da odaberem vrstu tipkovnice (with guillemots, jel'te). I to je što se region tiče to.

Setupiranje diska je najdugotrajniji dio postupka. Obrišem postojeći FS (windows 11, naravno, brišem ga bez razmišljanja) napravim EFI i jednu BTRFS particiju, dodam potrebne sobvolume, next, confirm, instalacija kreće. 3 minute ako pogledaš da li ima šta na mobitelu.

Kroz idućih par ekrana poklikaš opcije za swap/zram, napraviš (offline, nema nikakve potreba za bilo kakvim zaobilaznim metodama) account, regija, timezone, domena i još pokoja opcija.


Za divno čudo, ne pita ništa za bilo kakvu telemetriju. Dok sve ovo uneseš instalacija je gotova, reboot i eto te na desktopu. Ukucam "sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y && sudo reboot". Gotovo, idući put kad pogledaš desktop sistem instaliran i up to date. OK, dodatno sam pokrenuo aplikaciju za instaliranje nevidije, MX ima milion malih aplikacija za te razne sitnice.

Naravno da poslije svašta nešto podešavaš po svojim guštima i potrebama, ali ove najosnovnije stvari su jednostavne, nisu nepotrebno zakomplicirane, jer za to jednostavno nema potrebe. Nema prisile, nema nutkanja, sve je na izvol'te pa biraj što ti paše.

Od MX default browsera, playera i raznih viewera mi se ne povraća. Ako ti nešto od toga ne paše, nema problema, slobodno deinstaliraj i instaliraj nešto drugo. Default aplikacije se podese u 10-15 sekundi, sistem ne traži da podesiš default aplikaciju na 45 ekstenzija ponaosob.

Ovo je za mene sumrak razuma. Oprostite, jučer sam gledao Kruleta pa me malo inspirirao i dok ovo pišem on čita naraciju u mojoj glavi Ponijelo me.

Ja vjerujem da su u prošlosti napravili fuckup, ali smo im toliko "bitni" da se nikad nisu potrudili ispravit.
Jer to se poteze cijeli win10 i win11 zivot afaik. Mozda i prije, ne sjećam se sad.

Pa zar nije lakše nešto pustiti kako je nego ići mijenjati bez plana i programa? Ja računam da lijenosti ima svojih prednosti, ali treba si dati mira.

Autocad je dobio opciju Country: "Croatia" kod instalacije negdje sa verzijom 2017 ili 2018. Znači nakon 30 godina. Ima još nade.
