Intel ARC desktop GPUs may be slower than previously expected, a new performance prediction for the whole series suggests
Citiraj:
Intel has finally officially released the very first "Alchemist" desktop graphics card for OEMs and the retail segment - currently exclusively in China: The "Arc A380" is based on the smaller ACM-G11 (SOC2) graphics chip and works with only 1024 FP32 Units on a 96-bit memory interface in competition with the low-end products from AMD and nVidia. Their problem points are more in performance and game compatibility: tests reported starting difficulties with individual games and generally bad frame times (strongly fluctuating minimum frame rates). But the pure performance of the Intel graphics card is also somewhat questionable: Intel showed a comparatively meaningless benchmark slide , plus there was the promise of "up to 25% better performance per yuan". In media reports, this was often understood as "25% more performance", although both the "up to" and the price reference of this specification were ignored.

According to an updated projection, the largest Intel solution Arc A780 should now have to struggle to follow a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti at all to be able to - and the rest of the portfolio had to be downgraded accordingly. This then comes as a further braking point compared to a larger-scale launch of the "Alchemist" desktop graphics cards: The original performance target is probably not fully met, which also limits the applicable sales price. The other braking point is that a graphics card launch in the summer of 2022 will automatically be compared with the autumn launch of the next graphics card generation from AMD & nVidia - and seen from this perspective, it actually doesn't stand a chance. In this situation, hardly any graphics card manufacturer would want to get involved, because the chance of sitting around with unsaleable products in a few weeks is simply too great. Intel is more likely to dump the already existing ACM-G10 graphics chips for the Arc A500 & A700 series in the OEM segment and then no longer produce any new ones. The ACM-G11 graphics chip for the Arc A300 series alone has the chance to be continued for a certain time in the low-end segment and for mobile needs.

The experiences made here will hopefully serve to eliminate the existing problems with game compatibility and frame times, so that this can at least be the case with the subsequent Intel graphics generation "Battlemage". no longer has to be an issue.
