ATI's decision to have a 2200MHz DDR memory clock for the Radeon HD 2600 XT necessitates the use of GDDR4 but how does this increase in memory clock speeds affect performance? Our look at the XpertVision Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR3 Sonic showed that the clock speed disparity meant that the XpertVision was at most slower by around 5% in our benchmarks, which is hardly convincing. Just a simple overclock using ATI's Overdrive quickly brought us parity between the two, showing that core clock is as usual the more significant factor. In other words, the GDDR3 version could be a decent choice depending on the price difference between the two.
