nVidia GeForce RTX 50 SUPER refresh faces uncertainty amid reports of 3GB GDDR7 memory shortage

Uniko’s Hardware now claims that nVidia has cancelled the GeForce RTX 50 SUPER refresh. 3GB GDDR7 modules are in short supply and will not reach the desktop consumer market, which would directly affect the rumored RTX 5080 SUPER, RTX 5070 Ti SUPER, and RTX 5070 SUPER. In our earlier report, sources pointed to a late Q1 to early Q2 2026 launch window for the RTX 50 SUPER lineup, with a focus on higher memory capacities. The plan, as rumored, was to move from 2GB to 3GB GDDR7 modules. That would allow 24GB for RTX 5080 SUPER and RTX 5070 Ti SUPER, and 18GB for RTX 5070 SUPER, all based on the same GB203 and GB205 GPUs already used by the standard RTX 50 series.

3GB GDDR7 is being reserved for other products instead, such as RTX 5090 Laptop and RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell. At the same time, 2GB GDDR7 is becoming more expensive, which could put pressure on pricing for existing RTX 50 desktop models that already use this memory. We all expected changes to the specs, as nVidia rarely sets everything in stone this early, but at the same time board partners had no direct information on the specs, other than that they were coming.

Of course, we reached out to our sources to see if this is a new change, but we don’t expect anything firm given that nVidia has not released any official GeForce Embargo sheets for SUPER series yet.

According to multiple sources from Hong Kong and Taiwan, nVidia's upcoming mid-cycle refresh of the "Blackwell" SUPER GPU series is not canceled, although add-in card partners are still awaiting final specifications. HKEPC reports: "nVidia informed AIC yesterday that the RTX 50 SUPER plan is not canceled but the release date has been postponed to Q3 2026.
