The good news is that there have been no user reports confirming the issue described by nVidia. However, it’s unclear whether this is an isolated case or if the RTX 5060 series simply has lower-than-expected demand, and we are just not aware of it yet. The bad news is that if you own an RTX 5060 series card (either RTX 5060 or RTX 5060 Ti), your GPU may be prone to black screens or reboots. According to nVidia, this is caused by incompatibility with certain motherboard SBIOS (System BIOS) versions. The company emphasizes that the firmware update should only be applied by users experiencing these problems. If your system is running normally, the update is not necessary.

The issue may also occur on pre-UEFI motherboards running in legacy or CSM boot modes. In those cases, users are advised to contact the motherboard vendor’s support team for guidance. If your card shows these symptoms and is still within the return period, replacing it could be a reasonable option. nVidia has not clarified who is responsible for potential GPU damage if the firmware update process fails, for example due to a power outage. While the update process has been made as simple as possible, it’s not something every user is familiar with, nor would most know this problem exists in the first place.
