Intel has no immediate plans for Core Series with “3D V-Cache”, but confirms large cache for future Xeon CPUs
Citiraj:
While AMD’s third-generation Ryzen CPUs already include 3D V-Cache, Intel has no immediate plans to showcase a comparable product—at least not in the consumer market. In an interview hosted by Der8auer and Bens Hardware, Intel Tech Communication Manager Florian Maislinger confirmed that Intel is working on something with a large cache. However, it will be targeted at the data center market rather than consumers.
According to HardwareLuxx, who translated the conversation, while Intel has no immediate plans to produce processors with large caches for consumers, past patents have suggested designs incorporating such technology were at least considered. The Last Level Cache (L4 Cache), also referred to as Adamantine, appeared in a patent and software updates some time ago. Intel already benefits from advanced packaging technology, and theoretically, a cache could be implemented as a separate tile. However, to minimize latency, a multi-layer tile approach, similar to AMD’s 3D V-Cache, might be a more effective solution.
Intel is reportedly planning to integrate such a cache into its Clearwater Xeon CPUs, with the cache being added directly to the base tile.
The next-generation Xeon processors are expected to feature up to 17 active tiles. This product should launch next year.

The AMD CPUs are tailored for a very specific target group, and that group is gamers. We are aware that this technology can offer a lot to gamers, but it also comes with trade-offs and certain disadvantages or compromises that one has to accept. In this case, it’s fine if I have an X3D CPU, which might not be as strong in applications. That is intentional, and technologically, we still have it under control. That means, next year, there will be a CPU that features a cache tile, but not for desktops. (…) In the server market, it’s a different market with a wider scope of potential reach than with desktop CPUs. (…) But this is not the extremely large mass market for us. We still sell a very large number of CPUs that aren’t necessarily used for gaming.

Xeon Max shows much potential but until it can compete better in core count and allowing more HBM2e-per-core, Genoa-X is ultimately better positioned and can provide up to 96 cores per socket.

3D cache je na desktop gaming modelima samo dio škarta koji im ostaje nakon kaj zadovolje potrebe za EPYC čudovištima, a igre su dodatne aplikacije koje imaju korist.

EPYC 9684X is AMD's flagship Genoa-X SKU with 96 cores / 192 threads, 1152MB of L3 cache (3D V-Cache), a 2.55GHz base clock, an all-core boost speed of 3.42GHz, and a maximum boost clock of 3.7GHz. The EPYC 9684X has a 400 Watt default TDP but can be configured down to 320 Watts as well. The list price on this Genoa-X beauty is $14,756 USD. The other features are in common with the rest of the 4th Gen EPYC line-up including 12 channel DDR5-4800 memory, 128 lanes of PCIe 5.0, etc. Genoa-X is drop-in compatible with existing AMD SP5 Genoa server motherboards.
