Chat control vote postponed: Huge success in defense of digital privacy of correspondence!
Citiraj:
EU governments won’t vote on the proposed chat control law today. The idea is that chat messages on WhatsApp, for example, are scanned if they contain photos, videos or links to websites. The European Union wants to stop the spread of images of child abuse. The Belgian diplomats wanted to discuss the plan today with their colleagues from the 26 other EU member states. If enough countries had expressed their support, the proposal could be sent to the meeting of home and justice ministers, the Council of the EU. This would then be followed by negotiations with the European Parliament and the European Commission in order to arrive at the final 'Chat Control' law. The Belgian presidency postponed a decision on the legislation, which proposed scanning encrypted messages for CSAM. This doesn’t mean the proposal is gone for good — an EU diplomat tells the Belgian news outlet HLN that “it remains a key priority for the Council.”
