Meanwhile, the scraped 12GB variant (likely launching as the RTX 4070 Ti) @ $699-799 is slower than the RTX 3090 Ti, and on par with the RTX 3080 Ti. AiB partners were earlier told that the AD103 die that now powers the RTX 4080 16GB would be used for the RTX 4070, much like the previous generation. That means nVidia nuked the original RTX 4080 (based on the AD102) and promoted the 4070 as a replacement with 20-25% less performance. This would align with what various insiders on Twitter have been claiming over the past year and explain why there is such a massive delta between the RTX 4080 and 4090.
