Gigabyte Twists Truth About Exploding Power Supplies in Dangerous Way
Sažetak iz komentara:
Citiraj:
1) Gigabyte made a bad power supply design that fails spectacularly in lab test conditions when (and indeed after) the over-power protection (OPP) is tripped.
2) GN had several PSUs from 750W to 850W in the affected family tested with the same equipment Gigabyte would have used. Under normal test conditions, about half the PSUs failed and one caught fire.
2.5) At this point it should be noted that a 10% failure rate for a product is alarming and normally triggers recalls. Gigabyte is seemingly happy with a 40%-ish failure rate.
3) It's realistic. These PSUs were bundled with video cards that consume a lot of power, including RTX 3080 Ti variants. Beyond the specific things that GN was testing for, these PSUs are mixing and matching components that might not meet the same performance requirements, and might not meet the specification that Gigabyte is now quoting at typical room temperatures.
3.5) Given that the PSUs themselves are expensive to purchase, a lot of people thought that they were decent. Including people using these in mining rigs. They would have been put to use in a lot of configurations with high-end components.
4) GN reported some dead SATA devices, and one RTX 3080 Ti that may have been suspect anyway (being a Gigabyte branded card.
5) Gigabyte is not doing a product recall and issued a press release with laughably suspect math, presumably in the hopes of fooling the general public and the press into thinking that the issue is overblown.
6) Considering one of the PSUs caught fire at low loads, in an air-conditioned room, hooked up to lab equipment, the issue is not overblown.

What testing was done exactly?
They found that the primary side transistors were overheating and failing when load tested.
Is it or is it not realistic and in line with what users can expect?
The average user wont really use their PSU to that level (and users in Europe will stress their APFC mosfets much less due to the higher input voltage) but yeah it is possible for it to happen to the average user. The PSU should not fail like that.

Ako sam sve pohvatao, to su ova dva napajanja i Gigabyte ih neće povući iz prodaje??
