Intel Alder Lake CPU: In a notebook with 15W to 215W power limit on the go

Intel's new CPU family Alder Lake will largely adopt the TDP conditions of the current generation in the notebook. At its peak, there are now 115 watts, but this applies to 6+8 cores and GT2 graphics unit. Tiger Lake-H45 requires 107 watts in the tip for eight cores and UHD graphics. The first two stages follow Tiger Lake-U on the foot, for example, even today a Core i-11000 in the 28-watt TDP configuration can accommodate up to 64 watts in the turbo. This will also apply to Alder Lake's 4+8+2 configuration in the future, i.e. four large cores, eight small atom cores and gt2 graphics. However, the highest level continues, for 45 watts TDP, the scope of the 6+8+2 variant is extended to up to 115 watts.

Accordingly, a PL1 of 20 instead of 15 watts is now planned for the combination 2+8+2, i.e. with two large cores, eight small cores and GT2 graphics. Nevertheless, the 15-watt option is likely to remain for even smaller variants that were listed on the roadmap shown. Intel has made further adjustments to the parameters. Accordingly, with Alder Lake for the first time PL4 could come more strongly than before. This value has been maintained for many generations, but is hardly used, as it is only a matter of fractions of a second. This value is correspondingly large compared to the regularly known power limits (PL), 215 watts would be for the flagship variants with 14 or 16 cores including GT2 graphics, while the normal PL2 value remains at 115 watts and thus ranks 6 watts above the current Tiger Lake-H45 and also Tiger Lake-H81 such as the Intel Core i9-11900KB.
