Na jednom forumu sam naletio na post bivšeg zaposlenika Matroxa,
kaže da ih je nVidia pokopala,
u vrijeme 3D revolucije jako su u Matroxu gazili zaposlenike u utrku,
i tada im je nVidia otela top inžinjere, ponudili im više para, bolje uvjete.

Tada je bila Parhelia u razvoju, i to je bio zadnji Matroxov čip prije 19 godina.

Tako da se čini da nVidia nije slučajno prešišala konkurenciju.

Da, izgleda da im je to modus operandi, jer istu stvar su napravili u 3dfx i SGI slučaju (1 - 2), a Matrox grafičke su danas zapravo prepakirana nVidia rješenja.

The nVidia CEO (Jensen Huang) said he always planned to recruit the former 3dfx engineers. That was his primary reason for wanting to buy 3dfx, which was known for its 3-D graphics chips and Voodoo graphics cards for video gamers.

SGI's rich patent portfolio may have allowed it to create a lucrative licensing business. But patents need to be aggressively defended. In spring 1998 SGI announced it was suing nVidia for infringement of its texture mapping patent. However, the case never reached trial, and SGI's lawyers were left fuming as the company caved in only 15 months later, agreeing to license nVidia's patents. SGI canned the internal high end graphics team, decimating the group - and it was more like 1 in 10 survived, if that. But SGI also told the low end graphics team that nVidia would be paying their salaries while they finished their death march, and afterwards they would be nVidia employees. That was part of the nVidia settlement - along with the cross licensing of IP. It effectively meant that SGI was exiting any meaningful graphics hardware development, for the first time.
