Hello Josh,

Well, perhaps that is good news that you've gotten the new ProBook 4070 G4 to work with Windows 7. Here's an update on my discussion on this topic with our SMB liaison.

1. Initially, Microsoft was planning to cease support for Windows 7 for enterprise customers after October 31, 2016.

2. Support has been extended for about another year.

3. He confirmed that the HP G4 series only works with Windows 10.

4. He is not surprised that you would have a driver issue as the new Intel chipset is not suppose to be compatible with Windows 7.

5. When downgrading to Windows 7, he added that you need to consider not only the OS but also:

a. TPM. The G4 series comes with TPM 2.0 which only works with Windows 10. Windows 7 will want TPM 1.2.

b. BIOS Setting. The BIOS needs to be set for Win7 boot mode. This prepares the BIOS to accept Windows 7.

Surprisingly, you've indicate you've got the unit to work with Windows 7. Bravo! To us, if Windows 7 is critical and if it turns out that you experience downgrade issues, it appears that you may want to exchange the unit for the HP ProBook 4070 G3 and then upgrade this unit to Windows 10 since the user will be retiring soon. Based on our personal experiences adapting to Windows 10 on our notebooks was effortless. Yes, a VM is another option as Robert advises. I had this done on my commercial desktop. It is encouraging to see that at some point you may work with Windows 10. Much success.
