It is not long after the release of AMD Radeon HD 6800 series graphics cards, again it is said that AMD Radeon HD 7000 codenamed "Southern Islands" will be possibly released in the 2nd quarter of 2011, as RumorPedia reported. According to the previous information, AMD Radeon HD 7000 series graphics cards would be unveiled in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2011. However, in order to surpass nVidia in the 28nm manufacturing process, AMD has decided to take its time to cooperate with GlobalFoundries to do the research.
And therefore, it remains to be seen whether "Southern Islands" can be released in the 2nd quarter of 2011, as it depends on 28nm manufacturing process research of GlobalFoundries. Yesterday we have just reported that nVidia has got 28nm sample chips, it seems that AMD should go for it. All these infos, seems to point out that AMD is advancing pretty well with its future graphics card architecture, although I would suggest you to take this news with a huge grain of salt considering the sources cited.
However, there may be some truth to these rumors, since one can pretty much assume that if nVidia has 28nm chip samples, AMD most definitely has access to the same manufacturing technology, making the 28nm HD 7000 graphics card family possible.

Na stranu sve ostalo, ali gledajući da je AMD-ATi lansiral HD 4000 seriju sredinom 2008, HD 5000 krajem 2009. i novu HD 6000 krajem 2010. godine, ovi datumi za novu HD 7000 (ako uopće budu išli s tim nazivom
) se i ne čine tolko nategnuti i(li) pretjerani. Još ako se k tome doda da na novoj 28nm
Southern Islands arhitekturi ne rade "od jučer", isto kak nisu "od jučer" radili na prethodnim generacijama, ne bi bilo ništ čudno da za godinu (ili manje) dana AMD skupa s nVidijom opet lansira i službeno predstavi novu generaciju kartica baziranih na novoj arhitekturi.
Bulldozer (od
quad do
octo-core modela) i
Llano (od
dual do
quad modela) su nakon svih silnih (pogotovo za Llano) odgađanja, napokon "na putu" i još ako se poklopi da u slično vrijeme uspiju predstaviti i nove Radeon HD 7000 modele - tim (za kupce i tržište) bolje. Istinabog AMD je isplaniral nove Bulldozer procesore kombinirati sa sada aktulanim i nadolazećim HD 6000 karticma u sklopu
Scorpius platfrome, pa HD 7000 vrlo vjerojatno ide u kombinaciju s procesorima koji dolaze nakon kaj se Bulldozer modeli već udomaće.
Još je tu i Intel koji bude u svojem prepoznatljivom stilu sljedeće godine ljudima ponudil (za LGA-1155 platformu) 32nm Sandy Bridge (koji dolaze s DirectX 10.1 IGP-om) i 22nm Ivy Bridge (koji dolaze s DirectX 11 IGP-om) procesore - i opći kaos ne bude izostal.
