Baš tako, lamborghini traktor jer je odličan i za gaming i za rad, što god mu daš odradit će na maksimalnoj razini, ali naravno samo za gaming je debelo overkill i preskupo za tih par frejmova više.

Zasto je Threadripper toliko skuplji od AM4 procesora? Jel netko ima ovdje Threadrippera?

Pa na primjer samo moj Threadripper 1900x.

Cinebench render odradi za 1 min 23 sec

Threadripper 3990x to odradi za tocno 10 sec.

Sad si izracunaj sate i dane renderiranja i ustedu vremena, odnosno ranije zavrsen posao.

Nije tu samo bitan CPU, razlike su u samom sustavu/socketu/chipsetu i PCI-E laneovima. Ja sma tri-cetiri godine cekao da neko napokon napravi za AMD workstation ploce i napokon se dogodilo sa WRX80 socketom za TR Pro. Sad to napokon postoji tako da sam i ja nakon 25+ godina na AMDu

Moguće da 3D cache sačuvaju za Threadripper Pro modele koji stižu kasnije, ali kak god bilo i običan Zen 3 bude sasvim dobar.

.. zanimljivo je da imaju i "samo" 16-core proc dolazi čak 768MB 3DV keša, ustvari svi novi Milan-X procesori imaju istu količinu keša, što nije baš uobičajeno. Tvrde u članku da mogu stekirati do 8 layera keša na jedan CCD !!!

Ponekad se teško uključiti u rasprave na tu temu, ali čini se da se cijelo vrijeme miješa ukupni marketshare i trend u posljednjem kvartalu, što su sasvim različite stvari. Trend od 90% u jednom kvartalu = promjena od oko 4,5% u marketshareu koji je pretpostavljam petogodišnji ili tako nešto. Da bi se doseglo 16%, to bi značilo da se godinu dana kupuje isključivo AMD, ili tri godine rasta malo po malo, s trendom koji je očito i neupitno sve dominantnije na AMD-ovoj strani.

Da, svekupni tržišni udio im je na tragu Athlon 64 i Opteron ere, dok se ovaj serverski u svemu tome, polako, ali sigurno iz kvartala u kvartal (također) povećava.

Ništa čudno s obzirom koliko AMD ima snažniju, efikasniju i uz to znatno jeftiniju platformu, samo što serversko tržište nije toliko dinamično i sporo se mijenja, no skoro svi novi klijenti uzimaju AMD. Intelu ostaju jedino igrice tipa "platim te da ostaneš na mojoj platformi i dam ti još free upgrade", mogu si priuštiti poslovanje s gubitkom jer će ih to manje boljeti nego da im klijenti pređu na konkurenta, no ni to im neće puno pomoči.

NCAR prepares for Derecho, its third-generation Weather and Climate Supercomputer

Derechos, the namesake of the new supercomputer coming to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), are fast-moving, widespread bands of thunderstorms. Derecho, built by HPE, will be water-cooled and predominantly powered by third-generation AMD EPYC Milan CPUs and nVidia’s 40GB A100 GPUs, with 2,488 CPU-only dual-socket nodes (256GB of memory per node) and 82 single-socket heterogeneous nodes (four A100s and 512GB of memory per node). In total, the system is equipped with 692TB of total memory, 328 A100 GPUs and 5,058 Milan CPUs, all connected by HPE Slingshot v11 networking. This combined hardware will deliver 19.87 peak petaflops – more than triple the performance of Derecho’s predecessor, Cheyenne (5.34 peak petaflops). Cheyenne, installed in 2016, was itself preceded by the 1.26-peak petaflops Yellowstone system in 2012.

ASML Analyst Day: The future with DUV, EUV and High-NA is bright

ASML plans to introduce new extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment that will extend the longevity of Moore’s Law for at least ten years, according to executives at the world’s only supplier of the tools, which are crucial for the world’s most advanced silicon. Starting in the first half of 2023, the company plans to offer customers equipment that takes EUV numerical aperture (NA) higher to 0.55 NA from the existing 0.33 NA. The company believes that the new equipment will help chip makers reach process nodes well beyond the current threshold (2nm) for at least another 10 years, according to ASML vice president Teun van Gogh, in an interview with EE Times.

The company, which has now grown to around 31,000 employees and is headquartered in the Netherlands, is in the spotlight like never before. It goes hand in hand with the foundries, which hardly anyone outside the technology sector knew before the chip crisis of recent times. But now it is also becoming clear there how important, but also large, these companies already are. And this demand will not really subside, ASML believes, the demand for more wafers will continue to increase. Thus, ASML also opposes the assumptions that overcapacities could quickly occur. According to their analyses, this will not apply to the market as a whole, because it needs chips in structure size from 3 nm to 350 nm, as ASML illuminates with some components on the new iPhone alone. However, because ASML earns a lot from capacity building, overcapacity would also be the worst conceivable scenario.

AMD to implement TSMC SoIC tech with upcoming HPC chips

AMD will debut TSMC's ambitious System-on-Integrated-Chips (SoIC) technology with its upcoming HPC chips. SoIC will enable AMD to stack logic, memory, and I/O as separate chips within a single package. The article references a next-generation "HPC" chip, although it didn't delve into what this could be. Logically, AMD would want to integrate its EPYC and MI accelerator lines into a single package that can be used in HPCs. Such a product would combine its Zen-series x86-64 serial processing, with CDNA-series scalar processing, expertise in memory, leveraging large on-die victim-caches, and high-bandwidth memory (HBM); along with next-gen I/O. AMD company has just announced a special event which is to focus on high-performance computing hardware such as AMD’s HPC processor like EPYC or GPU-based accelerators known as Instinct series. AMD is expected to unveil its Milan-X EPYC series which are to feature a special 3D V-cache technology even before the consumer line known as Vermeer-X, which is too based on Zen3 microarchitecture. AMD will host its Accelerated Data Center Premiere on November 8, 2021.

AMD EPYC Genoa CPU to feature up to 12TB of DDR5-5200

According to the report from ComputerBase, with information exclusive to them, AMD will enable up to 12TB of DDR5 memory spread across 12 memory channels. The first document which was posted by Hans de Vries shows a diagram of Titanite 2P2G system with dual Genoa SP5 CPU, each supporting up to twelve DDR5 modules at the same time. It confirms that the next-gen EPYC CPU is to support up to 5200 MT/s through 16-layer memory modules which capacities up to 1.5 TB (LRDIMM type). Interestingly though, the platform is capable of supporting up to 12TB with 3DS RDIMM modules (3DS uses through-silicon vias), however, the speed will be limited to 4000 MT/s. AMD confirmed that Genoa is now sampling to customers and it is on track to launch in 2022. It will be accompanied by Bergamo based on Zen4c microarchitecture which will be compatible with the SP5 socket and platform.

AMD's Ryzen Threadripper CPU lineup is in a strange position, being simultaneously outdated while also being the market's best-in-class HEDT and workstation processors for many workloads. AMD's Ryzen Threadripper series is still using Zen 2 silicon, and Zen 3 processors have now been with us for over a year within the desktop and laptop CPU markets. Threadripper needs a Zen 3 update, and it looks like AMD will be giving it to us at CES 2022. AMD is reportedly planning to launch their Ryzen 5000 series Threadripper PRO processors on March 8th, 2022. The series' is set to be unveiled at CES 2022, showcasing the capabilities of AMD's fastest workstation processors. That said, it remains to be seen whether AMD will launch Threadripper non-PRO processors for their TRX40 series motherboards. AMD plans to reveal five Threadripper PRO series processors. Recent rumours have suggested that there will be 12-core, 16-core, 24-core, 32-core, and 64-core models. The new Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 series processors are likely to combine "Zen 3+" CCDs (6 nm, featuring 3D Vertical Cache memory), with full sWRX8 I/O that includes 128 PCI-Express Gen 4 lanes, and 8-channel DDR4 memory. There are no sTRX4 options on the horizon.
