GPU-Z also tells us that this is indeed a Radeon HD 6800 series card, as this information is read from the drivers rather than generated based on the GPU type and Device ID. We're not sure if the clock speed details are correct, but if they prove to be, then the GPU of at least one of the 6800 series models will be clocked at 850MHz with its GDDR5 memory operating at 1.6GHz, or 6.4GHz effectively. The memory bandwidth is listed as 204.8GB/s which compares quite favourable to the GTX 480 which has a memory bandwidth of 177.5GB/s.

The card scored a massive X11963 points which is kicking everything on the market today with the possible exception of the Radeon HD 5970. That's a serious performance boost, especially considering that this is a refresh and not a new design from AMD. Do take this with a pinch of salt though, as there are still too many details missing and it's not clear as to which product this is. Still, it's at least promising to see these kinds of numbers, as long as it proves to be true.

The first HD 6000 GPU to be released will be the Radeon HD 6700 series, codenamed Barts. The HD 6700 is scheduled for a release as early as October. As suggested by the nomenclature, the HD 6700 will directly replace the HD 5700 series.

The HD 6700 release will be followed up by Cayman in November, expected to be branded as the ATI Radeon HD 6800 series, replacing the current HD 5800 series.

The flagship will be Antilles, and branded as the ATI Radeon HD 6970. Antilles, as expected, will be a dual-GPU Cayman. While the HD 5970 lowers clock speeds from the HD 5870, HD 6970 is expected to feature the same clock speeds as the HD 6870 - basically a HD 6870 in CF. This will be much like the HD 4870 X2. The Radeon HD 6970 is scheduled for December.

The folks at PCinlife Forums are at it again. This time 3D Mark Vantage Extreme & Performance, Crysis Very High and Unigine Heaven benchmarks are out. And the results are very impressive. But, can it play Crysis? At Very High, 1920x1200, 4x AA, the HD 6870 comfortably plays along at 43.55 FPS. The minimum FPS is 29.57. Crysis has been well and truly conquered at HD resolutions with high IQ settings. At these kind of settings, previous single GPU cards barely broke 30 FPS average, which means the HD 6870's minimum framerate is the same as the average of HD 5870 / GTX 480. Remarkable!

Unigine's Heaven tessellation has been and one of the biggest weaknesses of the HD 5000 series, possibly signifying weak tessellation performance for future games. Typical scores for 1920x1200 4xAA Extreme are 900+ for the GTX 480 and 500+ for the HD 5870. Amazingly, the HD 6870 scores a whopping 922, which is a massive increase over the HD 5870 and puts it on par with the GTX 480. Do note, however, that the previous results were on Heaven 2.0, whereas the HD 6870 benchmarks use Heaven 2.1.

If true, these numbers are looking very good, and well beyond general expectations. The HD 6870 is well poised to be the fastest single GPU ever, even though AMD use a small die / dual-GPU strategy.

Na anandovom forumu se nagađa da je ova serija kartica zapravo N.I. u 40 nm procesu. Moglo bi to biti istinito s obzirom na oznaku u driverima, a i kažu ljudi da je glasina o S.I. nastala kada je iz roadmapa izbačen N.I. koji je navodno trebao biti izbačen krajem ove godine (ali je vjerojatno još teško moguće sve prebaciti na 32 nm).

Pored toga:

Originally, ATI said S.I. would include the evergreen SPs with N.I. uncore. Slight tweaking of tessellator.

But they've actually done a lot more than slight tweaking and its no longer evergreen shaders (vec5/5D), and the tessellator has been included in each group of shaders (so many more of them), whereas before it's just added as afterthought. (Izvor)

Duugo su G80 i njegovi potomci samarali ATI i sto je bila posljedica? Skupe kartice! Sjecam se kada je pajdas uzeo 8800GTX, platio ju je preko 5000kn.

Ako AMD sa serijom 6xxx uspije namlatiti Thermija 480, nema razloga za spustanje cijena kartica...
