AMD Zen 8 Core 95W Summit Ridge CPUs Launching In October – Already Going Through Validation

AMD Zen 8 core high enthusiast Summit Ridge CPUs are allegedly slated for an October release on the new AM4 socket. A source close to AMD claims that the eight core Summit Ridge CPU dies have taped out in January and are running through testing and validation right now.

This is the second major milestone that we’ve heard about concerning Zen’s development The first being the tape out of the Zen core / microarchitecture back in 2015 and the second being the tape out of the eight core Zen based SOC in January. This means that not only has the core design been finalized, but development of the first product chip with Zen cores has been completed. This is the eight core 95W Zen SOC which will be coming to the desktop later in the year. AMD has several other Zen based SOCs – systems on a chip – in development. A 32 Core Zen server CPU, a sixteen core Zen HPC APU and a quadcore Zen consumer APU. All of which should be taped out sometime later this year.
The desktop FX CPUs allegedly feature a 95W TDP and eight high performance Zen cores with multi-threading for a total of 16 threads. Zen is said to have extremely competitive single threaded performance according to engineers with knowledge of the chip. Citing more instructions per clock than Intel’s Broadwell and just a smidgen behind Skylake. The 95W TDP if accurate indicates that indeed we’re looking at a very power efficient design. In contrast, Intel’s eight core i7 5960X is rated at 140 watts but then again we’re comparing a 14nm FinFET product with a 22nm chip so a delta is to be expected.

Samo ne kužim o kakvom 8 core desktop SOC-u baljezgaju? Brijem greška tj. da se ne radi o soc-u
Teško osam jezgri plus grafiku nahranit s tim TDP-om, čak i na 14nm.
Anyway, moj 2600K strepi da ću ga prodat!

Neće oni imati grafičku (8 core koji dolazi Q4 2016), čisti cpu bi to trebao biti (tako je oduvijek najavljivano). Tako da taj prostor koji bi išao na igp ostaje za jezgre i manji tdp. Zato ne kužim spiku o soc-u (razumijem za ove s grafama ako će dolaziti sa hbm/hbm2 pa vjerojatno mora biti soc zbog toga). Lik je očito zabrijao

Iskreno, jedva čekam da izađe
Mogao bi i intel konačno prestat štancat i3 prevare ili im spustit cijenu za 50% tj na cijenu Pentiuma.

The latest rumor or should we say, update, comes from*BitsnChips*who have reported that AMD’s Raven Ridge APUs will be built by Global Foundries and packaged by South Korean Semiconductor company, Amkor. Amkor was the same company that packaged AMD’s Fiji GPUs (HBM+GPU+TSV). AMD will be using the GloFo-Amkor Duo to also package their next-gen Raven Ridge APUs that will utilize the next generation of HBM standard to deliver higher bandwidth to the faster discrete-class graphics chip featured on the SOC.

It is exciting to know that Raven Ridge will be a 14nm design from top-to-bottom. Since these APUs arrive in 2017, we can expect the Polaris GPU architecture to be deployed on these APUs which delivers up to 2.5 time performance per watt improvement compared to current generation GCN architecture.

AMD’s Carrizo APUs currently deploy the same GCN architecture which is found on Tonga and Fiji and Bristol Ridge is expected to keep the same design. Raven Ridge which deploys the GCN 4.0 GPU design will not only help APUs perform faster in graphics performance but also much more efficiently. AMD’s first Polaris demo was of an entry level chip which delivered great performance for a sub-40W design.

But with more graphics power comes more demand of bandwidth which unfortunately doesn’t provide a lot of bandwidth to faster graphics cores. Intel’s solution to feed higher bandwidth was faster eDRAM cache but AMD is deciding to go the HBM route. The HBM will act as fast DRAM which the GPU will have full access to. That’s the part two of the statement by*BitsnChips*who state that Amkor packaging AMD APUs is a hint that these are going to deploy the fast HBM DRAMs.

It’s not known what specific amount of HBM will be featured but a single HBM2 stack can deliver as much as 4 GB memory and 256 GB/s bandwidth. You can clock it up and down but the most entry level stack can still get as much as 128*GB/s. AMD’s HBM partner*SK Hynix*will begin production of 4 GB DRAMs in Q3 followed by 8 GB DRAMs in Q4 2016. They also have 2 GB but there’s no date issued how ever these low VRAM DRAMs sound most ideal for Raven Ridge APUs.

Regardless of the amount of VRAM, the bandwidth increase will be more than enough for the dGPU on board Raven Ridge and the 40% IPC increase just from the Zen cores will lead to a huge performance gain on AMD’s next gen APUs. Theperformance*of AMD Raven Ridge is expected to reach or even exceed the levels of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 performance due to better CPU, GPU and memory architecture. The Raven Ridge APUs will hit the AM4 platform and will be exciting to see how AMD handles these high-performance mainstream / consumer APUs when they launch in 2017.

1331 pin, odmah kreću nagađanja o tome zašto. 4-kanalna memorija, dual-socket...

Manuel, bilo bi lijepo da tu i tamo ubaciš izvorni članak. Znam da je vjerojatno wccftech tvoj prvi izvor, ali neka i oni koji su iskopali informaciju budu prepoznati. Kao Bitsandchips.it koji su mali, ali izgleda imaju svoje izvore. Možda dobiju nešto od dva-tri klika. Samo prijedlog, nhf.

Vrlo vjerojatno ce biti 4-kanalna memorija ako se radi o high end segmentu jer upravo zbog toga ce moci parirati Intelovim procesorima. Za dual socket cisto sumnjam iako je i to moguce.
