Nakon skoro mjesec dana PR hodočašća (1 - 2) i popratnog marketinga (1 - 2), Meteor Lake je napokon i službeno predstavljen u isključivo mobilnom izdanju, samo da bi gospođa iz Intela u eter plasirala da Meteor Lake tijekom 2024. stiže i u (prethodno otkazanom) desktop izdanju. Obzirom da su istovremeno najavili i pokazali mobilni Meteor Lake, desktop Raptor Lake-R, desktop Arrow Lake uz mobilna Lunar i Panther Lake čuda tehnike, tko zna gdje točno bi se taj desktop Meteor Lake trebal ubaciti unutar sljedeće godine. Istinabog, uvijek mogu već spremne mobilne čipove prepakirati za desktop, ali čemu onda u isti vremenski period najaviti desktop Arrow Lake koji je također već spreman.

In its current form, Meteor Lake is not really suitable for the desktop. The only known compute tile has six performance and eight efficiency cores. Serverski dio (1 - 2) priče je ispal varijacija na nekad ismijavanu chiplet temu do te mjere da se svoje implementacije više i ne trude zvati tiles. Naravno, najavljeni su nasljednici generacija koje još i nisu na tržištu, ali lako za to kad je u pitanju samo formalnost.

Intel 14th Gen Core desktop CPUs, part of the 125W unlocked K-Series, are anticipated to debut on October 17th. More SKUs, mostly non-K 65W models are set to launch at CES 2024.

Intel has made some clarifications to its recent statement regarding the desktop launch of its 1st Gen Core Ultra CPUs codenamed Meteor Lake. Intel Meteor Lake CPUs are not coming to socketed platforms, only available in desktop AIO & Mini PC solutions. This means that once again, we have to stick with the rumors that said Intel's Meteor Lake CPUs for the LGA 1851 socket have been more or less canceled. It's definitely a disappointing development for desktop PC gamers and enthusiasts who were anticipating the launch of the new chips on the LGA 1851 platform but it looks like now those users will have to wait quite a bit with Arrow Lake-S once again being positioned as the first desktop CPU family for the LGA 1851 socketed platforms.

Ništa ne očekujem od Intela od 10 do 12th nisu donijeli napredak po autonomiji od mobilnih cpu. Tek 13th vraća ali zaostatku po performansama u odnosu AMD.

Kad gledaš konfiguratoru, moraš paziti na P i U suficit. Jer potonji P ždere jako bateriju.

Ne znam kakav će biti 14th, ali svakako za pratiti.

Intel’s next-gen Arrow Lake-S CPUs target 5% single-thread and 15% multi-thread performance gain

To provide some context, Intel Arrow Lake-S is the next-generation desktop CPU platform that will make use of a new LGA-1851 socket. Due to the cancellation of Meteor Lake-S, Intel will not be introducing new Z890 and other 800 series chipsets this year. In response to this, Intel’s board partners are now introducing a refreshed Z790 motherboard series with support for the Wi-Fi7 standard. Arrow Lake-S is not expected to hit the market until the second half of 2024, but it appears that the internal performance goals have already been established. According to the slide, the Arrow Lake-S architecture is projected to deliver a 5% improvement in single-threaded workloads and an average of 15% improvement in multi-threaded applications. These numbers may ring a bell as they were previously shared by Igor’sLAB in July of this year, with some additional details. The next-generation desktop and mobile platforms will feature a new microarchitecture, known as Lion Cove for Performance Cores and Skymont for Efficient Cores.

Intel Core Ultra 7 155H Meteor Lake vs. AMD Ryzen 7 7840U on Linux in 300+ CPU benchmarks

There were cases of the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H outperforming the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U on Ubuntu Linux with all these CPU/processor focused tests, but more often than not it was the existing AMD Zen 4 processor leading.... In fact, out of 370 benchmarks run on both the Ryzen 7 7840U and Core Ultra 7 155H focused strictly on the processor performance, the Ryzen 7 7840U was the best performer 80% of the time! Ryzen 7 7840U enjoyed a 28% lead over the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H in these Linux CPU performance benchmarks. This was all the while the Ryzen 7 7840U was delivering similar or lower power consumption than the Core Ultra 7 155H with these tests on Ubuntu 23.10 with the Linux 6.7 kernel at each system's defaults. The Core Ultra 7 155H also had a tendency to have significantly higher power spikes than the Ryzen 7 7840U.

Intel Meteor Lake Core Ultra 7 155H only impresses in terms of GPU performance

The results so far indicate only a small improvement in efficiency under load, for both single-core and multi-core scenarios. However, Intel is still a long way from AMD and Apple, even if the values should improve somewhat. Things look better with the new integrated Arc GPU, which is reserved for the faster H-series processors. At least in the synthetic tests, the performance was increased massively and Intel can overtake AMD's Radeon 780M . When it comes to the actual gaming benchmarks, however, things look a little different.

Intel "Emerald Rapids" Xeon Platinum 8592+ tested, shows 20%+ improvement over Sapphire Rapids

On average, upgrading to the 8592+ increased single-socket server performance by around 23.5% compared to the previous generation configs of Sapphire Rapid, Xeon Platinum 8490H. The dual-socket configuration records a 17% boost in performance. However, Intel is not in the data center market by itself. AMD's 64-core offering that Xeon Platinum 8592+ is competing with is AMD EPYC 9554. The Emerald Rapids chip is faster by about 2.3%. However, AMD's lineup doesn't stop at only 64 cores. AMD's Genoa and Genoa-X with 3D V-cache top out at 96 cores, while Bergamo goes up to 128 cores. On the power consumption front, the Xeon Platinum 8592+ was pulling about 289 Watts compared to the Xeon Platinum 8490H average of 306 Watts. At peak, the Xeon Platinum 8592+ CPU managed to hit 434 Watts compared to the Xeon Platinum 8490H peak of 469 Watts. This aligns with Intel's claims of enhanced efficiency. However, compared to the 64-core counterpart from AMD, the EPYC 9554 had an average power consumption of 227 Watts and a recorded peak of 369 Watts.

nVidia CFO Colette Kress spoke about the possibility of having Intel as a foundry partner during an interview at the UBS Global Technology Conference. At the moment nVidia uses both Samsung and TSMC for their chip fabrication needs, with TSMC handling the majority of the duty. TSMC is currently the strongest foundry partner, and works on making gaming GPUs for the RTX 40 series alongside the powerful chips used in data centers that are making nVidia an AI powerhouse. Meanwhile, Samsung was the supplier of the chips used in nVidia’s prior generation RTX 30 series gaming GPUs.

Intel would be the third foundry partner if nVidia decides to go this route. Getting Intel’s foundry services will be a smart strategic move for nVidia. Tensions between the United States and China don’t look to be easing any time soon, with the possibility of losing access to TSMC’s services getting higher than anyone would like it to be. This will also be welcomed news by the current administration, who is working on developing and strengthening the domestic chip making capabilities available in the United States.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger came out swinging at nVidia's CUDA technology, claiming that inference technology will be more important than training for AI as he launched Intel Core Ultra and 5th Gen Xeon datacenter chips in an event here in New York City. Taking questions at the NASDAQ, Gelsinger suggested that nVidia’s CUDA dominance in training wouldn't last forever. "We think of the CUDA moat as shallow and small," Gelsinger went on. "Because the industry is motivated to bring a broader set of technologies for broad training, innovation, data science, et cetera." He suggested that with Gaudi 3, shown on stage for the first time, that Intel will be up to the challenge, and will be able to do it as well with Xeon and edge PCs.

AMD strikes back at nVidia with new MI300X benchmarks — MI300X shows 30% higher performance than H100, even with an optimized software stack. AMD also took one step ahead by making similar test situations to those nVidia did with TensorRT-LLM while accounting for latency, which is typical with server workloads. Neither AMD nor nVidia intends to back out of this argument involving the performance difference between the Instinct MI300X and the H100 (Hopper) GPUs. But AMD does make some strong points while comparing FP16 using vLLM, which is a more popular choice against FP8, which works only with TensorRT-LLM.

The red team announced the MI300X graphics accelerator early this December, claiming up to 1.6X lead over nVidia's H100. Two days ago, nVidia fired back by saying AMD did not use its optimizations when comparing the H100 with TensorRT-LLM. The reply reached a single H100 against eight-way H100 GPUs while running the Llama 2 70B chat model. In this latest response, AMD said that nVidia used a selective set of inferencing workloads. It further identified that nVidia benchmarked these using its in-house TensorRT-LLM on H100 rather than vLLM, an open-source and widely used method. Furthermore, nVidia used the vLLM FP16 performance datatype on AMD while comparing its results with DGX-H100, which used the TensorRT-LLM with FP8 datatype to display these alleged misconstrued results. AMD stressed that in its test, it used vLLM with the FP16 dataset due to its widespread use, and vLLM does not support FP8.

There's also the point that servers will have latency, but instead of accounting for that, nVidia showed its throughput performance, not emulating the real-world situation, according to AMD. So, AMD used the same selected testing scenario nVidia did with its second and third test scenarios, showing higher performance and reduced latency. The company added more optimizations when compared to H100 while running vLLM on both, offering a 2.1x boost in performance.

Uzimam novi laptop i odlučio sam čekati meteor lake, inače ga već i kod nas ima za uzeti (Asus Zenbook 14 Oled sa 155H i 125H).
Po testovima se čini da je baterija stvarno dosta bolja, ali ono što je čudno je da je Intel uspio proizvesti sporiji CPU od prethodnika (raptor lake), i to ne u nekakvim high power multi thread scenarijima nego i u običnom single core-u koji nije ograničen potrošnjom ni u ultrabooku. Zanimljivo

Inače H modeli su vrlo čudni, imaju konfigurabilan TDP od 28 pa do 115W, pa si ti misli kako će ti proc raditi

Baterija dost bolja, izgleda da ove super low power jezgre rade svoj posao i sad je tu intel dosta blizu Apple-a, integrirani ARC bar duplo brži od Iris XE-a i nešto sitno jači od 780M. Ali ostaje da je sporiji od prethodnika, to inače pokrivaju sa "AI značajkama", tipa da čip sad hardverski blura pozadinu dok si na web kameri, lol.

Neobičan naziv modela. Koliko vidim za sada prvi Asus. Ipak malo sam sumnjičav u pouzdanosti Thunderbolt. Čudan naziv Arc grafičke sa 15Gb naspram 780m sa 512Mb

Inače imam filing da na kraju ipak 780M ispadne bolji zbog boljih drivera. Zavisi od cijene samih laptopa, ali ja bi radije AMD ako nije skuplji.

Kakav je uopće zen4 sa baterijom?

Nema Arc svoj ram, ali zahtjev da Arc uopće funkcionira na laptopu je to da imaš barem 16GB rama u dual channelu. Ako to laptop nema onda se može koristiti jedino dobri stari "Intel Graphics"

Inače lako je moguće da će sa optimizacijama drivera jače preskočit 780M, vidjet ćemo.
Zen4 je jako dobar sa baterijom, konkretno 7840HS je bolji od 13700H, sa tim da na bateriji ne gubi performanse jako kao Intel jer je puno efikasniji na nižim potrošnjama.

Ne znam kako ARC ponaša, ali trebam prokužiti nazive modela. Možda imam filing da su rebrandirali nazive modela sa minimalnim pomakom preformansama.
Baš čitam na Notebokcheck, Youtube. Nisam još našao unutarnji layout komponente i hlađenja.

Za ovog Asusa Zeenbook zvuči solidno ( osim što nisam vidio unutra)
Sad baš gledam Lenovo Carbon X1 12 gen.

Zenbook je solidan, ima ga već i kod nas. I meni je carbon 12th gen zapeo za oko, pogotovo što su prešli isključivo na OLED. 2,8K 120hz, vrlo fino. Međutim current carbon x1 je uvijek oko 3000 eur, tako da će to malo pričekati

Ako to laptop nema onda se može koristiti jedino dobri stari "Intel Graphics" Inače lako je moguće da će sa optimizacijama drivera jače preskočit 780M, vidjet ćemo. Zen4 je jako dobar sa baterijom, konkretno 7840HS je bolji od 13700H, sa tim da na bateriji ne gubi performanse jako kao Intel jer je puno efikasniji na nižim potrošnjama.

Možda imam filing da su rebrandirali nazive modela sa minimalnim pomakom preformansama. Baš čitam na Notebokcheck, Youtube. Nisam još našao unutarnji layout komponente i hlađenja. __________________

Za ovog Asusa Zeenbook zvuči solidno ( osim što nisam vidio unutra) Sad baš gledam Lenovo Carbon X1 12 gen. __________________
