RTX 5090 vs RTX 4090 tested at same power level: RTX 50 flagship shows efficiency downgrade vs previous gen

According to ComputerBase RTX 5090 manages 17% more FPS on average vs RTX 4090 in rasterization workloads when both cards are limited to 450 W. So, the RTX 5090 suffers a performance regression of 8% when using 125 W less power.

This 17% performance bump at 450 W is also quite interesting, since the RTX 5090 packs 33% more CUDA cores than the RTX 4090. As such, one would expect the performance difference to be noticeably greater than the measured 17% when the RTX 5090’s power consumption advantage is removed. Granted, the lower GPU clocks of the RTX 5090 (113 MHz less) are undoubtedly negatively affecting the overall performance.

All things considered, it seems that Nvidia is brute-forcing its way to a decent lead for the RTX 5090 over the RTX 4090. However, this doesn’t fare well for the GPU’s efficiency, as the RTX 5090 appears to scale linearly with TDP (27% more performance for 28% more energy). For reference, the RTX 4090 has a >50% advantage vs RTX 3090 at a 29% higher TDP.

Ja DLSS u živo nisam vidio, ali generalno se čini da to nije tako loše. Ako su konzole godinama mogle raditi obični upscale, pa što glorious PC gaming master race ne bi mogla koristiti nabrijani supercomputer trained AI upscale

dlss još ajde, ako nam je to sudbine, đabe nam ga ne prihvaćat, šta je tu je
Frame gen je ok ako imas 50+ fps, za single player igre... Al vise od x2 je nepotrebno...

Frame gen ima smisla ako već imaš stotinjak fps-a i high refresh monitor pa ima smisla natjerati 240 fpsa i sl. Za ono što je nvidia prikazala u reklamnim slideovima (početak 30 fps pa na 120 sa fg) ima najmanje smisla. Stvar je osobne prirode, ali meni osobno bi sigurno više smetao input lag od artefakata i zamuljanosti, iako ni to nije baš dobrodošlo
Najobičniji vsync stvara input lag od kojeg imam osjećaj da se fps prepolovio. No izgleda da će svi upgrade-ovi osim fg-a bit dostupni i na seriji 40xx, možda zato je prije 2-3 tjedna bilo 30 4070s modela na mindfactory, a sad ih je 6
Ja ću pričekati 9070XT prije bilo kakvih (nepotrebnih) odluka

Ja DLSS u živo nisam vidio, ali generalno se čini da to nije tako loše. Ako su konzole godinama mogle raditi obični upscale, pa što glorious PC gaming master race ne bi mogla koristiti nabrijani supercomputer trained AI upscale
DLSS je u npr CP2077 fantastičan na quality, ja ne mogu nikako skužit razliku na 1080p. Što viša rezolucija, to bolje izgleda.

Ali fejk frejmovi su užas, pogledao sam HWU Timov video i to su sve nebuloze sa tim x3 i x4 fejk frejmovima. Kako je Ansha napisao, ko želi max taj 1 dodatni fejk frejm, sve preko diže latencije. I min za ff bi bio 60. Sve ispod je poprilična latencija, tj kako je Tim objasnio zapravo je 75+ min jer sam FF skida to na 60 kada ga upališ. Ima jako puno caka, a video mu je dosta poučan ako drži vodu, a rekao bi da drži jer je sve potkrijepio benchevima.

Da, točno to, tip doslovno ima cjenik, tak da se kasnije može lakše kreveljiti pred kamerom kak je sve to spontano, objektivno i općenito dobronamjerno. Užas, mislim, jasno je sve to još od njegovih NCIX dana. I onda je problem u tome da se sad (posebice nakon GN LTT dokumentarca) javno priča o načinu na koji oni "testiraju" i "recenziraju". TopShop Delimano TV prodaja, nazovite odmah i dobivate ovaj set noževa uz RTX 5090 koju smo opet sfušano "recenzirali". Eto, to je ta razina. I nažalost nisam jedanput u firmi ili kod klijenata imali prilike svjedočiti kako se Linus videi stavljaju kao argument u raspravu oko enterprise opreme, jer ovaj i to "testira", pa bokte taman posla da na temelju LTT/LMG plaćene reklame kupimo npr. paletu switcheva ili bilo čega vezanog uz tehniku.

Čini mi se da Nvidia više gura taj MFG (Multi frame generation) nego Transformer DLSS, jer veće brojke su boljije. A Transformer DLSS je puno veći dobitak nego MFG.

Dodat ću da je postalo presloženo pratiti sva ta softverska sranja. DLSS ima sto komponenti i brojki koje ne govore ništa (DLSS 2, 3, 3.5, 4). Svaka brojka znači nešto različito. Dodajmo tome DSR, DLAA, raytracing, pathtracing i još par tih stvari i čak netko tko prati stvari poput mene se pogubi što je najbolje.

A zbog nedostatka standardizacije, često se ono što je najbolje razlikuje od igre do igre ovisno o implementaciji i pojedinačnom patchu ili windows updateu, pa je situacija pretjerano složena i definitivno nije "just works".

Na Redditu testiraju beta drivere koji izlaze krajem mjeseca i kažu da novi driveri poboljšavaju performanse DLSS transformer modela. Gubitak frejmova je značajno manji, oko 2%, dok sa starijim driverima ide i do 13% na seriji 3000. DLSS mi je oduvijek bio nekako odbojan zbog artefakata itd., no s verzijom 4 sam prilično nahajpan.

"Speaking of "Performance" mode, this quality mode received a significant upgrade in terms of overall image clarity across all resolutions, making it noticeably less blurry and more stable in motion. The best example is to look at our screenshots and compare CNN and Transformer models at 1440p "Performance" mode, and the difference in details is very obvious, especially on small thin objects such as power lines. Of course, screenshots don't tell the whole story, but using it in person for at least an hour, we must say that this low resolution quality mode is very usable and playable with the new model. It's actually impressive how the new model manages to produce an image this good, considering the fact that the internal resolution is 720p. Just to be clear, the improvements to "Performance" mode are not related to Alan Wake's implementation only, but rather to the Transformer model as a whole, which means you will see similar improvements in other games as well."
