After spending so much time working with clock speeds and gaming performance, and performing this evaluation, the results are quite clear. GPU clock speed advantage with Vega is the primary reason why AMD Radeon Vega 56 and 64 are faster than AMD Radeon R9 Fury and Fury X. There is no other conclusion we can come away with. This means that all or most of the performance uplift you see from Vega 56/64 versus Fury/Fury X (from Fiji to Vega architecture) is purely down to clock speed. The 500+ MHz clock speed advantage of Vega 64 versus Fury X is what makes it 30% to 40% faster than Fury X when normally clocked. Considering new technologies in place with regards to Vega, versus Fiji, it is surprising that the architecture itself, sans clock speed, isn’t making a bigger impact.
