Last year, Codemasters felt a name change was in order for its long-running Colin McRae rally-racing series, at which point it aptly dubbed the through-the-trenches racer DIRT. The UK-based publisher today unveiled a similar tack with its TOCA street-racing series, replacing the game's working title, Race Driver One, with the punched-up moniker GRID.
Presumably in reference to a racetrack's starting grid, Codemasters' latest racer again lets aspiring Andrettis hop behind the wheel of various high-powered automobiles for street and drift racing. GRID features a turbocharged version of Codemasters' DIRT game engine, as well as car and environment damage. Players will be able to compete in a variety of race types across the US, Europe, and Asia.
GRID will arrive for the Xbox 360, Playstation3, and PC in mid-2008. It has not yet been rated or priced."
