The first independent Benchmarks are out, made by the Inquirer, and they show 1 thing pretty clear:
Intels C2D and QX were the best CPUs... until AMDs Barcelona will claim the crown to be the fastest CPU.
They have run 3DMark06 and the memory benchmark from Everest 4.0
Lets look at the System specs first:
AMD Barcelona SINGLE CORE(!!) @ 2.5 GHz / @ 3.0 GHz
AMD RD 790 chipset
AMD 2900 XT crossfire @ 830 MHz core / 900 MHz Memory
Corsair Dominator PC2-9136C5D 4 GB
WD Raptor 10.000 rpm
The 3dMark Score @ 2,5 GHz was 23.768, and at 3.0 GHz 30.031. We are still talking about the single core here!
The memory bandwidth shows the following scenario:
Intel quadcore Kentfield 2,93 GHz : 7500 MB/s
AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ (AM2) : 8800 MB/s
AMD Barcelona @ 3.0 GHz (AM2+) : nearly 10.000 MB/s
What is the conclusion? To everyone who is thinking about a new system right at the moment: Wait for the AMD CPUs, waiting another 3/4 Months is really worth it, as you can see.
To everyone who bought an Intel CPU lately: Dont cry, shit happens!
