so far, as far as i can tell, the device id usually doesn't change. however, one user reported that his HIS card actually had a XL label on it with a GTO sticker. It seems that HIS may have just flashed XLs at least initially..

In the previous news item, there is a report that the X1800 GTO can be flashed into a X1800XL.
According to our sources, the early batches as early as March 15 were using X1800XL chips. This may not be limited to review samples sent out during that period of time.
If you happen to have an early batch of the X1800GTO, you might be having a X1800XL with the pipelines "locked" to 12pipelines. Flashing in a X1800XL will unlock it to a full fledge X1800XL.
