Currently, there is no single date that can be corroborated by multiple sources. It seems NVIDIA has either not set a date yet or has shared incorrect dates on purpose to test for leaks. However, multiple sources have now confirmed that the first card to launch in the new Blackwell lineup will not be the RTX 5090 but the 5080 model instead. However, this does not mean the RTX 5090 will be released much later. On the contrary, it is expected to launch “just a few weeks later,” either by the end of January or mid-February. The fact that the RTX 5080 would launch before the 5090 was already mentioned by Kopite7kimi in May of this year. So, clearly this was the plan for a very long time.

We have also recently been informed that CES 2025 will primarily focus on the RTX 5080, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Jensen showcased the 5080 first and then revealed the flagship 5090 card, which is expected to appear a bit later. Both the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 have already been extensively leaked, but there seems to be some conflicting information regarding the memory speed for the 5080 model. Additionally, the power consumption figures are said to be lower than previously reported.

The RTX 5090 is expected to launch with the GB202-300 GPU, featuring 21,760 CUDA cores and 32GB of GDDR7 memory.
The RTX 5080, on the other hand, would feature the GB203-400 GPU with 10,752 CUDA cores and 16GB of memory.
