Tragikomedija.

ARM boss casts doubt on Intel's path forward after CEO shakeup
Citiraj:
Everyone has an opinion on what went wrong with Intel and where the company is headed. Recently, the CEO of one of its biggest rivals - and an occasional partner - weighed in on what could be next for the chipmaking giant. He noted that companies must continually reinvent themselves in the tech industry. Haas believes Intel's core dilemma is deciding whether to remain vertically integrated by designing and manufacturing chips or to split those roles by becoming fabless. Intel has wrestled with this "fork in the road" for the past decade. Gelsinger had firmly chosen vertical integration when he took the helm in 2021, a strategy Haas felt required 5-10 years.
Haas suggested that such a model has its upsides, but he also questioned whether the immense associated costs made it "too big of a hill to climb" for Intel. In September, ARM had reportedly approached Intel about acquiring its product division, which develops chips for PCs, servers, and networking equipment. Intel turned down the offer. Haas declined to comment on the deal other than to note that he repeatedly urged Gelsinger to license ARM designs to boost Intel's prospects and leverage its manufacturing capacity. However, Gelsinger didn't take that offer.

XScale
Citiraj:
XScale is a microarchitecture for central processing units initially designed by Intel implementing the ARM architecture (version 5) instruction set. Intel sold the PXA family to Marvell Technology Group in June 2006. Marvell then extended the brand to include processors with other microarchitectures, like ARM's Cortex. PXA System on a Chip products were popular on smartphones and PDAs (with Windows Mobile, Symbian OS, Palm OS) during 2000 to 2006.
On June 27, 2006, the sale of Intel's XScale PXA mobile processor assets was announced. Intel agreed to sell the XScale PXA business to Marvell Technology Group for an estimated $600 million in cash and the assumption of unspecified liabilities. The move was intended to permit Intel to focus its resources on its core x86 and server businesses. Marvell holds a full architecture license for ARM, allowing it to design chips to implement the ARM instruction set, not just license a processor core.

Odlično, u Intelu su zapravo bili debelo ispred vremena i konkurencije, bez da istovremeno kuže kakav točno potencijal imaju na raspolaganju, prije, nego sve rasprodaju i unište priliku.
