AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D burns out: socket defect or user error suspected
Citiraj:
The user shared several images showing the compromised CPU, an MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk motherboard, and its AM5 socket. This report marks the first known instance of such a problem with the newly released CPU, suggesting that the issue may not be widespread. The shared photographs could provide important clues about the cause of the malfunction. Initial observations suggest that physical damage to the AM5 socket might prevent the CPU from being properly seated, potentially causing the malfunction.

This idea is currently a hypothesis proposed by several community members, and the CPU owner has acknowledged that the damage could result from user error or a defect in the hardware. So far, the incident appears to be isolated, with no evidence of a widespread defect in the CPU model. Despite this, the damaged CPU is no longer functional and cannot be repaired. The good news is that Gamers Nexus’ Steve Burke has already offered to buy the CPU from the Redditor, so there may be a full investigation. Or it could turn out to be a simple explanation that won’t warrant further investigation.
