EK Water Blocks faces investigation over delayed payments to employees

Several Slovenian news outlets have confirmed that EK Water Blocks (EKWB) are being investigated by the Slovianian Labour Inspectorate. This investigation comes after employees reported delayed salary payments to authorities. This news comes six months after Edvard Konig resumed his position as CEO of EKWB and announced corrective action to address another delayed payments controversy. Forbes Slovenia, citing anonymous sources, claims that employees are not receiving their salaries. EK has reportedly sent a notice to employees that some payments “will most likely not be paid before October”. It has also been claimed that EK laid off several employees in July.

When asked about the company’s revenues, financial position, and delayed payments, EK sent the following response to Forbes Slovenia. The company’s management claim to be repairing the damaged caused by the company’s previous leadership and refused to comment on the “internal operations of the company” aside from stating that “unpopular” actions had to be taken. Below is their full statement. Based on these reports, it looks like EK Water Blocks is in a challenging financial position. Even so, delaying the payments of employee salaries is hugely unethical, regardless of the reasons why. Currently, it remains to be seen what the results of Slovenia’s investigations into EK will be. Regardless, things don’t look good for EK.

It is also clear from public databases that a new company, EK International d.o.o., was founded in July, the owner of which is Marko Mitrović, one of the leaders in EKWB and director of the EK Serbia branch.
