The Fire Isolator fire blanket was designed specifically for deployment to fires in electric cars, with the lithium battery also on fire (thermal runaway), in order to minimize the collateral damage. Applying a fire blanket to a regular car fire is of course also possible, if the risk of collateral damage is high, such as in car parks, on ferries, car carriers, etc.

However, a regular combustion engine car fire can simply be extinguished with water. Note that a Fire blanket does not fight the fire inside the battery, that is why we use the Potassium Aerosol Units in our Fire Isolator concept. Based on the tests that were performed in Thailand and Korea, it is now best practice to spray a water mist over the blanket to reduce the toxic fumes/vapor coming off the car, as can be seen in this video from minute 1:47.

The Fire Isolator EV Fire Blanket can handle up to 1600 degrees Celsius (2900 Fahrenheit) and is reusable up to 7 times. Our Fire Isolator fire blanket has the following test certifications: ASTMD6413 and ISO EN 13501-1.
