AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 7900X3D, 7800X3D with up to 128MB V-Cache (200MB total) coming in Jan 23
Citiraj:
AMD is planning to launch the 3D V-Cache variants of the Ryzen 7000 processors just a quarter after the mainstream Zen 4 offerings. Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and the 7950X3D will be launched during the chipmaker’s CES 2023 keynote in January. Each of these CPUs will feature one or more 3D stacked cache dies (atop the CCDs), doubling the overall SRAM available to the cores. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D should come with a 64MB chiplet stacked vertically atop the lone 5nm CCD, increasing the L3 cache to 96MB and the overall to 100MB. Considering the law of diminishing returns, it’s unlikely that the V-Cache for this octa-core CPU will be more than its predecessor’s. Moving on to the dual-CCD Ryzen 9 offerings, we have the 7900X3D and the 7950X3D. Ideally, the latter should pack two 3D V-Cache dies, one atop each of the CCDs while the latter may come with one fully or two partially enabled cache titles. Knowing that gaming workloads don’t scale past 8 cores all that well, AMD will almost certainly include a larger L3 cache reserve on the 7950X. Else, there won’t be much reason for gamers to even consider it over the 7900X. We’re probably looking at 128MB and 192MB of LLC for the Ryzen 9 7900X and the 7950X, respectively.
