TFTcentral: When HDMI 2.1 Isn’t HDMI 2.1 – The Confusing World of the Standard, “Fake HDMI 2.1” and Likely Future Abuse

The latest update to the video standard rolls all the spec for HDMI 2.0 into HDMI 2.1 meaning monitors / TV's could be advertised with HDMI 2.1 support, while not supporting the full HDMI 2.1 feature set such as: 4K 120 Hz or variable refresh rate.

It will be up to manufacturers to state which HDMI 2.1 features the device supports.

PCGamesN: Gaming monitors could become a complicated mess, thanks to HDMI

Videocardz: DMI Licensing Administrator does not seem bothered with “Fake HDMI 2.1” monitors ... HDMI 2.0 monitors are now HDMI 2.1?

Gizmodo: Don't Buy an HDMI 2.1 TV or Monitor Before You Read the Fine Print. You might not be getting any of the features you think you are.
