Gigabyte leak reveals Zen 3 Threadripper CPUs codenamed 'Chagall'

These CPUs will max out at the same 64 Cores and 280W as Ryzen 3000 Threadripper, but feature the significantly quicker Zen 3 architecture, a recipe that is known to make the best CPUs on the market. According to the Gigabyte leak, it appears AMD is preparing two lineups for Zen 3 Threadripper. One will be dedicated towards the HEDT market, while the second is targeted towards workstation users (called Threadripper Pro), with significantly more memory channels. The HEDT chips will work on the TRX40 platform, while the workstation models will be on the WRX80 socket.

AMD EPYC leak showcases the power of AMD's Zen 4 Genoa processors

For starters, these new leaks confirm that AMD's SP5/Zen 4 EPYC processors will support DDR5 memory. Beyond that, we now know that AMD's Zen 4 EPYC processors will utilise 12 Core Chiplet Dies (CCDs) and support 12-channel memory configurations. These changes alone will give AMD's next-generation EPYC processors a major increase in CPU core count and a monumental increase in total memory bandwidth. AMD's Zen 4 architecture is also due to support AVX-512, a feature that has been missing from AMD's EPYC product line from its inception. AVX-512 support is a major advantage of Intel's Xeon lineup, so much so that it was a critical aspect of Intel's Ice Lake marketing. Bringing AVX-512 support to EPYC will hit Intel hard, as it removes one of their most marketed advantages over AMD's EPYC lineup.
