Citiraj:
...this is a non-issue in my opinion. When we had the switch from E12 to E12S there was a very obvious physical change and usually a downgrade in DRAM capacity, but the two controllers are still identical.
The SM2262 -> SM2262EN was also effectively just a change in write-throughs (bypass firmware for faster writes) but also slightly higher clocks, although these vary on SM2262EN drives by 25 MHz or so.
It's not a matter of "better" but rather different trade-offs, however it's clear from the linked review that these pass-through writes are still present, and to say a SM2262 with that change is "SM2262G"
but different than "SM2262EN" with the same changes is playing semantics. If there are other actual changes, beyond possibly firmware (we do see differences even between S11 Pro and SX8200 Pro),
I'll discover them, but it is not anticipated to be significant...
Change in DRAM is a different discussion but generally irrelevant. Usually the move to DDR4 and especially LPDDR4 is done for efficiency's sake (power consumption), supply, cost, etc.
I don't think it's been tested directly (although I know Sean at TH has poked into it) but it's also essentially a non-issue here.
As I posted above the EX950 also has the "G" in reviews and this includes newer ones, e.g. on TPU's firmware article. This is also true of SMI's SATA controllers (SM2258/XT -> SM2258G/H, "G" on HP's S700/S700 Pro).
Historically SMI has used "EN" for its DRAM-equipped SKUs but with some exceptions...
