TSMC board approves Arizona manufacturing expansion
Citiraj:
Important as it is, the fab won't be restricted to the production of 5nm semiconductors on US soil, there will also be an R&D division in Arizona, which is expected to draw on the pool of local talent and liase closely with other leading semiconductor businesses in the area. Some TSMC partners which supply materials to its Taiwan-based facilities are also preparing to make a move over to Arizona, which will bring further benefits to the US industrial landscape and state jobs market. Arizona is said to have a plentiful water supply and cheap power rates, as well as being strong in green energy production. While the total investment estimated to be required to raise the plant and make it fully operational is approx US$12 billion, TSMC's board of directors has just approved the first contribution to the project, a sum of US$3.5 billion.

Intel launches Xe-LP server GPU: First product is H3C’s Quad GPU XG310 for Cloud Gaming
Citiraj:
It is virtually identical to the DG1 that was unveiled barely two weeks ago. That is to say that it’s essentially a discrete version of Tiger Lake’s integrated GPU, offering 96 EUs and 24 ROPs, and bound to a 128-bit LPDDR4X memory bus. The one notable difference here is that while DG1 laptop implementations are all using 4GB of VRAM (thus far), Intel expects Server GPU installations to get 8GB per GPU. The pathfinder product for the Server GPU, the XG310 is a quad GPU card aimed specifically at the Android game streaming market. The card offers 8GB of LPDDR4X per GPU, for a total of 32GB of on-board VRAM. Meanwhile connectivity is provided via a PCIe 3.0 x16 connection, which from the looks of the card is being fed into a PLX PCIe switch before being distributed out to the individual GPUs.
