Right now if you use x265 and x264 with roughly equivalent settings the x264 will look better at the same bitrate. That is, x265 seems smaller and better at the moment because the settings used are much inferior in comparison to x264 forquality*encodes of high bitrate HD movies and tv. All the x265 releases out there on public trackers are brilliant if you don't care for the overall quality. HEVC/x265 still has a long while to go and once the encoders are happy that it is surpassing x264 at the same settings with considerable benefits then yes, they will switch to x265.
