Honestly this "better armor protection" of germans is a myth. They cant be citadelled (well most of the time), true. But thats all. If they face another BB, they hardly have advantage there. Angled NC is basically impregnable to german 380mm, same for Amagi. On other hand Germans take tons of damage at every angle from 400mm shells (they take a lot less from each other). As for the Flamu video - it showcases Amagi, which is imo a counter to german BBs.
Amagi is the opposite of german BBs. It has the stigma of "badly armored" BB, which simply isnt true.
- people used the 254 mm Belt armor as the main point in discussion. Now look at the armor viewer and you will see you have a well angled 48mm plate behind it (wont ever be overmatched so will never be ignored, but can cause bounces). 254+48 (and thats not even taking into account of the 2nd layer slope) means 302mm belt armor. NC has 305mm. Bismarck has 320 belt tapered to 160mm. There isnt a huge difference there.
- "turtleback" of germans works very well, but Amagi has basically same mechanism protecting her from FAST shells of german BBs. They simply dont plunge inside to get into citadel area, even though the roof of citadel in Amagi case is just 19mm so would be easily overmatched. Bismarck has 80mm turtleback - but both BBs are "protected" vs each other at similiar distances.
So in case of Amagi vs Bismarck, both of those BBs are pretty well protected against each other, but Amagi keeps huge advantage in firepower, not only having a lot stronger shells but 25% more of them.
It also produces somewhat interesting rock-paper-scissors among BBs at tier 8. NC is a lot less protected vs Bismarck, because it lacks that 48mm angled slope, meaning that while plunging fire into citadel is also very hard for Bismarck, it can be exploited easier (and a lot easier at higher ranges). On other hand Amagi is very vulnerable to NC "suborbital" shells, that easily go over her pretty low belt armor, hit the 48 plate at very comfortable angle and go into unprotected citadel roof (19mm so easily overmatched). Finally Amagi can easily win a broadside duel with Bismarck.
