Did some testing with LilJumpa in the training room just now. It appears that the 3 seconds delay is there, regardless of what you do. Smoke, hide behind an island, whatever.
What catches me totally off guard is that all of a sudden, I'm still visible when SA has extinguished. I'd have sworn it wasn't that way before the latest patch.
