So...
...after lots of matches in an Amagi (actually, something around 150k XP worth of Amagi matches) together with a division mate, I think we figured out the new BB AP mechanics, whether they may be intentional or (what I hope) are simply broken.
The strangest thing I encountered are cruisers, at perfect broadside, at low distances, which simply don't eat AP damage. So let's start with this:
AP overpenetrations: Back before 5.1, any cruiser consistently showing broadside to BBs was, for all intents and purposes, toast. But now cruisers seem to be able to show broadside and don't get citadeled, they don't even seem to get damaged seriously! Many, many AP salvos we shot at cruisers at low distances, dealt minor damage. And in almost all cases, it was multiples of 1260 dmg. So what happened here? 1260 is 10% of the Amagi's 12600 max AP damage. -> Overpenetration! Somehow, the penetration calculation seems to have changed in such a way, that BB shells overpen cruisers which are showing broadside. Strangely enough, we also got bounces at these distances - it's either bounce or overpen (mostly overpen actually), which doesn't make sense at all. Still, this is what we observed. This gets further underscored by me still scoring citadels on cruisers at low distances - when they were angled (bow or stern) towards me. What probably happened here? Well... my shells went straight to the deck from above and, because of the angle, had lots and lots of ship to travel through - and didn't simply pop out of the ship's side.
The conclusion here is that the newest patch somehow seemed to have completely inverted game mechanics for cruisers vs battleships. Now the SAFEST thing a cruiser can do is actually showing broadside! And the unsafest thing is angling. This is completely ridiculous, but nonetheless it seems to be true now.
Additionally, there are more things at odds. Dispersion, for once, seems to be way worse for battleships. Again, I don't know if this is simply broken or intended.
Another crazy change is cruiser AP. It seems to penetrate battleships way easier now, which actually may be related to the fact that battleships now overpen cruisers. In fact, I had two Clevelands penetrating me again and again (an Amagi) with AP today, at a shallow angle! This is definitely not supposed to happen.
All these changes lead to the most ridiculous development of all, at least to me: As a T8 BB, the most dangerous ship around is a freaking Atago. Why? Well... she will hit you again and again with HE for consistent 2-5k dmg every 8 seconds, plus fire. And all you'll accomplish is shooting holes into her. Same goes for an Atlanta. Even before the patch, this little flamethrower was something you don't want to get close with if you're a BB. But then you could at least get good damage rolls or outright citadels to defend yourself. Today? I can't remember a single salvo on Atlantas where I scored more than multiples of 1260 (mostly a single or two overpens, thanks to her small size and the horrible dispersion).
I'm seriously hoping that this is a bug and will get fixed ASAP. After all, apparently this behavior wasn't there on the test server."
