I know there are camera apps that can do that. I even tried one last month but it gives some FCs on gallery, and some other bugs, because you have to change some of the libs too, and that is always a nasty thing. I wasn't impressed by the output of that app (interpolation to 8 mpx). There is an app on playstore (uCam) which do a better job, but is not free, and therefore I couldn't put it in my ROM. If you want to try it you will see is good.
