Hands down the BENQ 1620 blows PIONEER away.....bitsetting out of the box, no hacked firmware for that.....frequent firmware upgrades compared to other brands of dvd burners.....there is a hacked firmware to make the drive read at a faster speed but in my opinion why wear out the laser in a dvd burner.....i use my dvdroms to rip unless there is disc that can't be read then my BENQ 1620 is used...it's one of the best readers next to LITEON & TOSHIBA.....just my 2 cents.....

Agreed. The benq drive is better then Pioneer because:
1) Bitsetting for DVD+R disks.
2) Can easily read most DVD-R/+Rs at 16 speed when patched.
3) Burns CD and DVDs very well. It seems to burn CDs better then the Pioneer 108 I had. As for dvd's, its a bit of a crapshot, it burns my CMC MAG E01's without a problem unlike my pioneer drive. However, my 8x ritek disks (RITEKG05) don't work correctly in the Benq at 8x speed and have to be burned at 4x speed (which gives great quality, whereas the pioneer deals with these disks at 8x better.
