Schumacher refused to stand on the highest step of the podium, forcing a reluctant Barrichello to take that honor, and when Wolfgang Schüssel, Austria's chancellor, gave Schumacher the winner's trophy, he in turn handed it to Barrichello

Schumacher later said he understood his team's reasoning.
''The team wants to win the championship, and they have invested, with the sponsors, so much money in it that if we fail for maybe a point in the end then we would look stupid,'' he said.
