F.E.A.R. 3 Hitting PC, Consoles This Fall

The gap between F.E.A.R. 2 and F.E.A.R. 3 won't quite as long as the spacing between F.E.A.R. 2 and the original.
Warner Bros. Interactive sent along a press release announcing that the third installment of the freakishly fun F.E.A.R. franchise is heading to the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in Fall 2010. The game should turn out to be an interesting collaboration between Monolith Studios, Day 1 Studios, legendary horror writer/director John Carpenter (Halloween, Christine, The Thing), and horror comic and script writer Steve Niles (30 Days of Night).

The latter two, Carpenter and Niles, "provided consultation to enhance several of the game’s frightening aspects," however Niles actually co-wrote the game's script with the development team; John Carpenter provided an expert insight into crafting horrifying in-game cinematics. Unfortunately, Monolith Studios isn't directly involved with F.E.A.R. 3, "passing the torch" to developer Day 1 Studios, the group behind the original's console version.

"Alma returns in F.E.A.R. 3," the press release sates, "however this time her sons Point Man and Paxton Fettel introduce divergent co-op, giving players distinctly different abilities affecting their own play as well as the experience of their co-op partner. Gamers participate in single player or co-op modes as Point Man, a genetically enhanced super soldier originally introduced in F.E.A.R., or they can play cooperatively as his conniving brother Paxton Fettel, whose incredible telekinetic power has given him life beyond the grave."

Believe it or not, it's been almost five years since the original F.E.A.R. title hit the PC, launching October 17, 2009. The Xbox 360 version didn't appear until Halloween 2009, followed by the PlayStation 3 version on April 20, 2007. F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin didn't ship with a staggered schedule, hitting all three platforms simultaneously on February 10, 2009.
