Report: Nvidia GTX 480, 470 Availability Delayed
Citiraj:
It's no secret that making Fermi has been a harder-than-expected task for Nvidia, but the company will officially unveil its finalized product in the GeForce GTX 480 at the end of next week on March 26.
While you can expect to see an announcement at an event at PAX East coupled with plenty of benchmarks, a story posted on Shane Baxtor's site says that retail availability will come after the announcement date.
According to Baxtor, the original retail date was supposed to be March 29 but now that's been moved to April 6.
We reached out to Nvidia for clarification, but we were told to stay tuned to the company's stage show from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. next Friday. At any rate, hopefully those boxes for Inno3D GeForce GTX 480 were filled with product and ready to greet gamers as soon as possible.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 480 Die Shots Appear Online
Citiraj:
Nvidia may still be hanging on tightly to its GeForce GTX 470 and GTX 480 GPUs, it seems that some overseas have managed to get their hands on some Fermi silicon.
Earlier this month, German publication Heise (translated) featured two photographs of a GeForce GTX 480 that clearly showed an A2 stepping stamp. The publication measured the package to be 42mm × 42mm.
More recently Expreview captured images found on Chinese forum NGA showing more detailed die shots of GeForce GTX 480 silicon with A3 stepping. The die measured 23mm x 23mm, or 529 square millimeters.

Nvidia Shows GeForce GTX 480 ''Hair'' Rendering
Citiraj:
Nvidia shows off how Fermi will make flowing hair look in fancy tech demo.
When new GPUs are in development, it's not uncommon for there to be a myriad of tech demos that show all the new realism features afforded by the new technology.
One such steady improvement seen by increasingly powerful graphics hardware is more realistic hair. No longer is hair just a few triangles stuck together, giving 3D characters a look that can only be achieved in real life with an entire can of hairspray.
Netbooknews captured this Nvidia tech demo at GDC, which shows off Fermi's fancy hair rendering prowess.
