"Propus", AMD Athlon II X4 die shot:


"Regor" AMD Athlon II X2 (1MB of L2) die shot:

"Propus" is expected to debut in the third quarter, although it has already been delayed a few times. Processors based on this core will be branded as AMD Athlon II X4 600 series and as AMD Athlon II X3 400 series, which will be a cut down "Propus" core codenamed "Rana".
Die size for these processors is estimated at 168mm2, allowing AMD to become competitive with Intel's 45nm Core 2 Duo and Quad, which have a die size of 107mm2 and twice that for the quad core. Although the Athlon II X4 is expected to be cheaper but slower than the Core 2 Quad, it may prove a big problem for Intel's Core 2 Duo E8000 series.

Athlon II X4 620 and 630 will come:

As motherboard makers have informed us AMD will launch Athlon II X4 620 (4x 2.6 GHz) and 630 (4x 2.8 GHz) in the next weeks. Up to now only the existence of Athlon II X4 600e (4x 2.2 GHz) and 605e (4x 2.3GHz) was sure.
