Here are the first pictures of Intel's new high-end CPU socket, the 2011-pin land grid array (LGA2011). A selection of pictures of an unannounced motherboard by MSI made it to the internet. LGA2011, coupled with a new chipset, the Intel X68 Express, will drive the company's new high-end and enthusiast-grade processors that feature 6, 8, or 12 cores, and quad-channel DDR3 memory controllers. At first sight, the LGA2011 is huge! Its retention clip looks to be completely detachable by unhooking the retention bars on either sides. With all LGA sockets till date, you needed to unhook one retention bar, letting you open the retention clip along a hinge.

Since the processor has four DDR3 memory channels, there's room for only one DIMM per channel on a typically-sized ATX motherboard. On this particular motherboard, we can make out that there are two DIMM slots on either sides of the socket, accommodating two channels each. With this platform, Intel transferred the northbridge component completely to the CPU package, much like LGA1156/LGA1155. Therefore, the 32-lane PCI-Express controller is housed inside the CPU package. What remains of the chipset is a PCH (platform controller hub). Like P55/H55/P67/H67, the X68 is a PCH, a glorified southbridge. It will house a smaller PCI-E hub that handles various connectivity devices, a storage controller, a LPCIO controller, USB and HDA controllers, and the DMI link to the processor. We will get to know more about this platform as the year progresses.

Evo ja danas malo trazio o tim procesorima i plocama pa evo na sta sam naisao, doduse izgleda da su sve xeoni, ali nema veze :D

LINK - a tu ima par grafikona i slike ploce za 1P i 2P

E da, mozda bi se i trebao promjeniti naziv ove teme, jer chipset nece biti x68, nego x79, doduse to je vec "stara" vijest, ali vidim da jos nije dospjela vamo.

Dakle, 4 channel ddr3, to znači da bi ploče trebale dolaziti sa 8 memorijskih slotova ili 4?
Sadašnje tripple su bile sa 6, pa držim fige da ni ove neće biti igračke:)

Vidim da piše 1 DIMM per channel, što bi reklo da je četiri DIMM-a potrebno za postizanje četverokanalne konfiguracije. Na ovim slikama MSI X78 ploča izgleda da su po dva RAM DIMM-a iznad i ispod socketa.

Meni baš ne zvuči logično da bi ostali (samo i isključivo) na 4 slota, što bi ih spustilo s konja (6 slotova na 1366) na magarca. Ovaj prvi post je bio još iz vremena kad su mislili da će hajend chipset biti X68, a ne X79... Tako da mi ova gore slikica sa xeon platforme ulijeva nadu:) Uostalom, zašto pokoja high end ploča nebi bila i EATX; entuzijasti i profići baš i ne trpaju extreme edition proceve sa pasivnim hlađenjem u HTPC. Uglavnom je riječ o mrcinama od kućišta koja moraju zgutati par najmasnijih grafičkih, najmasivinje hlađenje i koji kilovat napajanja.

Pa dosta je 4 slota. Ujedno i 4 kanala. Naguras lako 4GB keksove unutra i dobijes 16GB.

Core i7-3960X About 47% Faster On Average Than Core i7-990X

Slides of a key presentation to Intel's partners was leaked to sections of the media, which reveal Intel's own performance testing of the Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition, the top-model of the socket LGA2011 "Sandy Bridge-E" processor series. Meet the family here. In its comparison, Intel maintained the Core i7-990X Extreme Edition socket LGA1366 processor as this generation's top offering. It was pitted against the Core i7-3960X in a battery of tests that included some enthusiast favourites such as Cinebench 11.5, POV-Ray 3.7, 3DMark 11 physics, Pro-Show Gold 4.5, and some OEM favourites such as SPECint_rate base2006, SPECfp_rate base2006, ans SiSoft SANDRA 2011B multimedia and memory bandwidth.

From these test results, the Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition is pitched to be about 47.25% faster on average, compared to Core i7-990X Extreme Edition. Intel is attributing the performance boost, apart from the normal IPC increase, to the 33% higher bandwidth thanks to the quad-channel DDR3 IMC, and the new AVX instruction set that accelerates math-heavy tasks such as encoding. The Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition is an upcoming socket LGA2011 six-core processor that is clocked at 3.30 GHz, with Turbo Boost speed of up to 3.90 GHz, with 12 threads enabled by HyperThreading technology, and 15 MB L3 cache. It will release by either late 2011 or early 2012.

Uf, neuspjevam link naci, ali ako nadjem priljepit cu ga.

Uglavnom, citao sam da ce SB-e i LGA2011 izaci pred kraj ove godine, ali ponesto izmjenjen, cak i ploce ce biti drugacije, tj. sam cipset.

Intel ce izgleda izbaciti totalno PCI-E 3.0 i biti samo na 2.0, kazu zbog nedostatka grafickih i drugog PCI-E 3.0 hardvera, s kojim bi testirali.

Ploce izgleda nece dolaziti s tolikom kolicinom SATA/SAS utora. Do sada je cipset bio isti (po SATA utorima) kao P67 + 8 kanalni SAS kontroler, a sada ce taj SAS kontroler biti srezan na 4 kanala ili totalno ukinut.

A kasnije tokom 2012-e godine ce valjda izaci podrska za PCI-E 3.0 i puni, 8 kanalni SAS kontroler.

Zivi bili pa vidili, mozda je intel natjeran na to zbog nadolazeceg bagera, a i ploce bi mogle biti jeftinije, ako izbace ili srezu SAS kontroler...

EDIT: sad vidim da je MCG vec nesto slicno prije priljepio :D
Ali nisom to na tom linku procitao...

Boldano mi se najviše sviđa, napokon ćemo moći svi SATA3 diskovi imati nativne brzine. Imam po 2-4 hdd-a a matične imaju samo 2x SATA3.

Ako se radi o običnim tvrdim diskovima nebu ti oni iskoristili ni SATA2 sabirnicu što se tiče brzine, a sumljam da imaš 4 superbrza SSD diska.

Po tvome onda neznam zašto uopće rade SATA3 HDD diskove... vjerojatno inženjeri u WD-u sa debelom plaćom neznaju nešto što ti znaš...

Mehanički diskovi su vrlo ograničeni što se brzine tiče i nijedan ti neće iskoristiti propusnost ni SATA2 sabirnice, to što se izrađuju SATA3 nema apsolutno nikakve veze s njihovom brzinom. Zašto stavljat stariju sabirnicu kad je došla nova, a troškovi i proces izrade su joj praktički jednaki.

Foxconn Quantum Force X79
To begin with, Foxconn did some rearrangement in the bottom-half of the PCB. On the sample we saw at Computex, expansion slots were arranged (from top to bottom) as PCIe x4, PCIe x16 (electrical x16/x8), PCIe x16 (electrical x8), legacy PCI, PCIe x16 (electrical x16/x8), and PCIe x16 (electrical x8). With the new version, they're arranged as PCIe x16 (electrical x16/x8), PCIe x4, PCIe x16 (electrical x8), PCIe x16 (electical x16/x8), legacy PCI, and PCIe x16 (electrical x8). The new expansion slot layout is a notch better, as it makes room for three graphics cards that are two slots thick, to be installed.

The Quantum Force X79 is positioned to be a high-end socket LGA2011 motherboard. The processor is powered by a 14-phase VRM that makes use of DirectFET MOSFETs, which when backed by a good I2C-capable VRM controller have known to provide smooth voltage control. Such FETs have been used on older Quantum Force motherboards and BIOSTAR's TPower series models. Other overclocker-friendly features include redundant firmware (BIOS), consolidated voltage measurement points, and OC hard-tuning buttons apart from power and reset buttons.

ASRock is readying is new, high-end socket LGA-2011 motherboard targeting the upper-most tier of the PC enthusiast market, the X79 Extreme7. This board will be a part of the company's first wave of LGA-2011 motherboards, which are slated for mid-November, 2011.The CPU socket is powered by a 16-phase VRM making use of high-grade chokes, and server-grade poscap capacitors. The socket is wired to six DDR3 DIMM slots arranged in sets of three on either sides of the socket, powered by a 4-phase VRM. Among channels A, B, C, and D; channels B and D have two DIMM slots wired, so if you have four DDR3 modules, you should populate slots 0, 2, 3, and 5; to take advantage of quad-channel DDR3 memory.

There are heatsinks over the memory VRM areas, that are connected to the heatsink over the CPU VRM using heat pipes. Expansion slots include five PCI-Express x16, two of these can run at full-bandwidth PCI-E 3.0 x16, four at PCI-E 3.0 x8 bandwidth (depending on how the slots are populated with add-on cards), one of these is wired to the X79 PCH and is PCI-E 2.0 x4 capable. There's a legacy PCI slot, too. Storage connectivity includes four SATA 6 Gb/s ports, seven internal SATA 3 Gb/s ports, and one eSATA 3 Gb/s. Other connectivity options include six USB 3.0 ports (two on the rear panel, four via headers), 8+2 channel HD audio with optical and coaxial SPDIF outputs, two gigabit Ethernet connections, FireWire, and a number of USB 2.0 ports.

EVGA X79 Classified E799 Motherboard Pictured

EVGA was missing on the LGA2011 motherboard wall at this year's Computex event in June. EVGA is one of the top brands overclockers and enthusiasts look forward to, for motherboards. As a late consolation, EVGA gave out a teaser picture of one of its upcoming X79 motherboards a little later in June. At GeForce LAN 6, however, EVGA made full use of the spotlight to unveil its X79 Classified (E799), a top-tier socket LGA2011 motherboard clearly designed for overclockers.

The X79 Classified uses a traditional LGA2011 motherboard layout, but with wide open spaces to make insulating it (against condensation) easier. The CPU power delivery seems to be in the hands of some very high-grade VRM design, it draws power from two 8-pin EPS connectors apart from the 24-pin ATX (that's right-angled). There are just four DDR3 DIMM slots, one per memory channel. A 4-phase memory VRM is deployed. Over the chipset area, a large contiguous heatsink covers most hot components in the central-right region. We don't expect there to be a bridge chip.


Expansion slots include four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (two are x16 capable, all four are x8 capable, depending on the way they're populated), and one PCI-Express x16 (electrical x4). The board is NVIDIA 4-way SLI capable. There is one PCI-Express x1. The board is built on the XL-ATX form-factor, and requires cases with at least 10 expansion slot bays.

Storage connectivity includes two SATA 6 Gb/s and four SATA 3 Gb/s ports internally, and two eSATA ports driven by a third-party controller. There are 10 USB 3.0 ports driven by numerous VLI-made controllers, eight on the rear panel, two by header. 8+2 channel HD audio with optical SPDIF output, two gigabit Ethernet connections, Bluetooth, and EVBot connections made for the rest of it. Expect a ton of overclocking features that come with EVGA's Classified series motherboards.

EVGA's first wave of LGA2011 motherboards, apart from the X79 Classified, will also include EVGA X79 FTW (E777), and EVGA X79 SLI (E775).

EVGA Teases X79 Based Dual LGA 2011 Socket Motherboard, Replacement for SR-2? -vjerojatno ju necu nikad imati, ali uvjek mogu sliniti :D
Samo neznam zasto su jednom procesoru dodali 4 utora za memoriju, a drugom 8, vjerojatno nestane, ali sto nisu onda na oba isli na 4.
To oni najbolje znaju. Boja i vecina komponenti ploce su ocekivane. Svidja mi se sto su dodali one mini sas konektore (ili kako se zovu), a ne bubali tonu pojedinacnih konektora...
