When Lisa Su became CEO of Advanced Micro Devices in 2014, the company was on the brink of bankruptcy. Since then, AMD's stock has soared—from less than US $2 per share to more than $110. The company is now a leader in high-performance computing. Su is the first woman to receive the IEEE Robert N. Noyce Medal award, which recognizes her "leadership in groundbreaking semiconductor products and successful business strategies that contributed to the strength of the microelectronics industry." Sponsored by Intel, the Noyce Medal is considered to be one of the semiconductor industry's most prestigious honors.:):D AMD's business is booming, and Su is credited with expanding the market for the company's chips beyond PCs to game consoles and embedded devices. AMD released products in 2017 with its Ryzen desktop processors and EPYC server processors for data centers. They are based on its Zen microarchitecture, which enabled the chips to quickly process more instructions than the competition. The Radeon line of graphics cards for gaming consoles debuted in 2000.

A i Lisa Su je sama najavila nestasicu čipova do ljeta 2022 prije koji tjedan, bas magicno pred izlazak zen3 refresh a nedugo nakon izjave je i odgođen dugo cekani Threadripper zen 3 koji ce na kraju biti u Q1 2022, a lako za iscitati između redaka da ce biti paper launchevi i mozda ce ponuda biti ok tek pred koji mjesec od ZEN 4.
I trenutno je muka sa dostupnosti konzola i grafi kije su također na 7nm i sad jos na to dva nova launcha... Da bitno da se izbaci pa kad se proda proda

TSMC plans new chip factory with Sony in western Japan.

The Japanese government is apparently expected to produce up to half of the total investment's value, with Sony potentially taking only a minority stake in the operation.

Microsoft on October 12 put out the first Cumulative Updates for the new Windows 11 operating system, since its October 5 release. The company's monthly update packages for Windows are unofficially dubbed "patch Tuesday" updates, as they're scheduled to come out on the second Tuesday of each month. Shortly after Windows 11 launch, AMD and Microsoft jointly discovered that Windows 11 is poorly optimized for AMD Ryzen processors, which see significantly increased L3 cache latency, and the UEFI-CPPC2 (preferred cores mechanism) rendered not working. In our own testing, a Ryzen 7 2700X "Pinnacle Ridge" processor, which typically posts an L3 cache latency of 10 ns, was tested to show a latency of 17 ns. This was made much worse with the October 12 "patch Tuesday" update, driving up the latency to 31.9 ns.

AMD put out a statement on social media, which surfaced on Reddit. The company stated that patches for the two issues have been developed, and specified dates on which they'll be released. The patch for the Preferred Cores (UEFI-CPPC2) bug will be released on October 21. Customers can request the patch even earlier. By "customers," AMD is probably referring to big enterprise customers running mission-critical applications on Threadripper or EPYC-powered workstations. The L3 cache latency bug will be fixed through the Windows Update channel, its release is scheduled for October 19.

If rumors surrounding the late-October/early-November launch dates of 12th Gen Intel Core "Alder Lake" processors are true, then the situation with these patches will have a direct impact on AMD. Processor reviewers will be compelled to use Windows 11 for their Core "Alder Lake" testing, as the new operating system supposedly has greater awareness of the heterogeneous core design. The switch to Windows 11 will force a re-bench of all processors, including the AMD Ryzen chips. With AMD cautioning of an up to 15% performance hit from the added cache latency and Preferred Cores bugs, results of AMD processors in 12th Gen Core launch reviews could be affected. It is advisable for AMD to reach out to the press with these patches immediately, if they are ready.

Zanimljivo da je potvrđen PCIe 5.0 za Zen 4.

Da, frajer (Tom) se fino lovi za sitnice (1 - 2 - 3), mada je cijeli njegov video totalno nepotreban, samo da "objasni" kako je u pitanju AMD-ov PR, "damage-control" i marketing općenito. Ko bi rekel.:)

Iz videa u video sve više se stječe dojam da mu je cilj biti glavni izvor informacija za VideoCardz, Wccftech i sl., a onda kad mu pokupe sve bez da ga spomenu, onda slijedi trabunjanje o žutilo portalima.

S druge strane pak, kad ga navode kao izvor, e onda sam sebi u podcastu pročita sve članke u kojima se spominje i sve je OK. Nek se drži onoga s čim je počel, jer ubrzo bude postal ono kaj trenutno ismijava.

Skurio ih je "Moore's law is dead" ;). Prvi Ryzen je izašao u Q1 2017. Dakle, nije 5 godina :D.
Zanimljivo da je potvrđen PCIe 5.0 za Zen 4.

Mislim da je pcie5 potvrđen za AM5, a moguće i samo high end modeli Zen 4, trenutno nema previše smisla prelaziti na pcie5 jer je skup, a tek smo počeli iskorištavati gen4.

Our business significantly accelerated in 2021, growing faster than the market based on our leadership products and consistent execution. Operating income was $948 million compared to operating income of $449 million a year ago and $831 million in the prior quarter. Non-GAAP operating income was $1.1 billion compared to $525 million a year ago and $924 million in the prior quarter. Operating income improvements were primarily driven by higher revenue. Net income was $923 million compared to $390 million a year ago and $710 million in the prior quarter. Non-GAAP net income was $893 million compared to $501 million a year ago and $778 million in the prior quarter.

The number-two x86 chip and discrete GPU maker has been enjoying explosive growth ever since AMD kicked off its renaissance of sorts a couple of years ago, and that trend has been continuing unabated – AMD is now pulling in more revenue in a single quarter than they did in all of 2016. Consequently, AMD has been setting various records for several quarters now, and their latest quarter is no exception, with AMD setting new high water marks for revenue and profitability. Looking forward, AMD’s expectations for the fourth quarter and for the rest of the year have been bumped up yet again. For Q4 the company expects to book a record $4.5B (+/- $100M) in revenue, which if it comes to pass will be 41% growth over Q4’20. AMD is also projecting a 49.5% gross margin for Q4, which if they exceed it even slightly, would be enough to push them to their first 50% gross margin quarter in company history. Meanwhile AMD’s full year 2021 projection now stands at a 65% year-over-year increase in revenue versus their $9.8B FY2020, which is 5 percentage points higher than their forecast from the end of Q2. Under Chief Executive Offer Lisa Su, the 52-year-old company is experiencing one of its strongest periods, offering products that are the equal or surpass those of larger rival Intel Corp. AMD’s growth, relative to that of its competitor, indicates the company is gaining market share.

AMD is evidently going to bring out the heavy artillery in the server space, if the latest round of leaks end up being accurate. Looking beyond what's on tap for AMD's next-gen Zen 4 EPYC processors (codenamed Genoa), it is said the Zen 5 lineup (codenamed Turin) will come loaded with up to 256 cores and 512 threads to tackle server workloads. There are numerous interesting nuggets associated with the later rumors regarding Turin. The big jump in cores and threads is one of them, but it's also said the EPYC 7005 series will slip into the same SP5 socket that is supposedly going to debut with Genoa. That's notable because Genoa will, by comparison, 'only' sport up to 96 cores and 192 threads. That's a lot of cores, and there's also a rumor floating around that a subsequent Zen 4 EPYC lineup codenamed Bergamo will offer up to 128 cores and 256 threads in AMD's forthcoming SP5 platform.

It's said to be one of two Zen 5 EPYC configurations, the other being a 192-core/384-thread chip. At the top end, however, we're looking at double the number of cores compared to Bergamo, in the same SP5 socket. How AMD goes about this remains to be seen, assuming the information rings true. One potential path is to double the number of cores per CCD, from eight to 16, which would pave the way for a 256-core chip in a 16-CCD package. Or maybe AMD something else in mind, like stacking CCDs. It's also said Turin will have a max configurable TDP of 600W, versus up to 400W for Genoa. That's a mighty big power envelope for sure. At the same time, leaked documents suggest SP5 peaks at 700W in a 1ms duration, with peak power capability rated at 600W. So it's all plausible. It might be 2023 or even 2024 before we find out.

Kaj se AMD-a tiče, nedavno su službeno izjavili da nemaju namjere ići big.LITTLE putem, jer nemaju ni potrebe, a osim toga - kaj budu složili, npr. Zen 4 3D cache chiplet + običan Zen 4 chiplet i to je to.:frend:

I opet je to sve ista Zen arhitektura, te nema potrebe za manevrima na tragu Intelovih čuda tehnike. Kak god se okrene, AMD otpočetka ima ono kaj sad Intel pokušava složiti.
